The Quest of the Aryan Vira-Escape From the Eternal Return

The awakened Aryan realises that he is a vira, a hero-warrior of semi-divine origins who has an obligation to fight in the greater spiritual war that has engulfed the planet and the solar-system. The Aryan initiate is a would-be Sonnenmensch who seeks to escape the damnable Eternal Return, to achieve individuation, the stage of absolute personality so that on physical death the integrated personality survives and travelling up the invisible Irminsul through Iring`s Way reaches the void of the Black Sun, the Schwarze Sonne[SS], the ancient immobile sun, the point of origin for the divyas who arrived on this planet millennia ago prior to their mixing with the "daughters of men". We will have escaped the limitations of our humanity and become as Gods. This is the destiny of the awakened Aryan but only the awakened as this requires effort-not belief or `faith`, which is the great christian lie.

Charlemagne or Karl the traitor as I prefer to call him may have destroyed the physical Irminsul but the invisible one-the real one remains and one finds its location at the point of the North Pole, the land of the Hyperboreans-the divyas. This Irminsul is the Irminsul in macrocosm. There exists in microcosm in each Aryan an invisible Irminsul which occupies the same space as the spinal column. Through the practice and mastery of the principles of Rune Yoga the initiate can achieve altered states of consciousness and full awakening via the realisation of the Ich-the I as symbolised in the Isa Rune.

We have in this a teacher, a master-Woden, the Lord of the Runes who by His sacrifice of Himself to Himself rediscovered the lost Runes, that body of lore which had been lost by the divine divyas prior to their degeneration. For nine nights He hung upon the world ash-the Irminsul. On each of these nights He visited each of the nine worlds and acquired knowledge. In other words He activated each of the nine chakras, the swastika wheels which represent these worlds and states of consciousness. Each of these swastika wheels is governed by a Rune and its mantra must be mastered. There are five elements involved in Rune Yoga: breathing techniques, visualisation, meditation, the mantra and the Rune form itself. The master is able to engage in all five disciplines simultaneously.

Through this process we are able to achieve personal awakening and the the awakening of the Blood Memory or what Jung called the Racial Collective Unconscious. Most of our people fell asleep long ago and have become little more than robots or cardboard cut-outs destined to keep returning in the Eternal Return and learning nothing each time. They have effectively lost their semi-divine status and will never achieve awakening. Woden knows those who belong to Him and He has called us out to fight in this great war.

The robots are cannon fodder, foot soldiers for the demiurge Jehovah, the evil lord of this world. Scientists are predicting that within a decade or two the polar icecaps will have melted. If this does take place-and it has many times in the past then I predict that archaeologists will make great discoveries as the lost civilisation of the Hyperboreans comes to light.

For those interested in the subject of the polar origins of Aryan man I can recommend Tilak`s Arctic Home in the Vedas, originally published in 1903. Recently his work has been re-examined by Professor M.M. Ninan in Tilak and the Aryan Origins: Are his findings still valid? Not only does the professor support Tilak`s theory but he provides additional evidence via modern scientific techniques not available to Tilak.

It is significant that in the Eddas there is reference to the 12 major Aesir who daily sit in council, the ancient Greeks knew 12 major deities that likewise took council on Olympus. We also know of the 12 knights of the Round Table under the leadership of Arthur or Ar-Thor, an ancient Aryan sun deity. No doubt the 12 signs of the zodiac also represent the houses of these deities. The major Gods have the primary task of offering leadership in the great war and are guardians of the invisible Irminsul and Iring`s Way[the Milky Way]. These guardians are prefigured in the 12 Sig runes of the Black Sun. The Irminsul may be imagined to take the form of Gungnir the spear of Woden or the lance of Parsifal, pointing the way towards the swastika constellation, behind which is hidden the Black Sun. Irmin is strongly identified with this column and He is cognate with Aryaman, Airyaman, Ariomanus, Eremon and the Germanic hero Hermann or Arminnius.

The Hammer of Thunor and the Generation of Vril

The Hammer is the most ubiquitous of our holy symbols, so much so that these days it is often worn, possibly most often by the profane, those not of our faith. I have misgivings about the popularity of the Hammer. On one level I am pleased that it is gaining ground against the crucifix for this is a cosmic war in which we are engaged:a war not only of a physical but of a spiritual and psychic nature and there is always an advantage in having a weight in numbers. The Axis was in need of such numbers between 1943-1945 and lack of numbers cost it the war.

However the increasing pupularity of this symbol amongst those outside of the Cult of Woden risks it losing the power that it currently generates. Because of this I have over the last year or two attempted to substitute the wearing of the Hammer with other symbols, including the closely related Axe which is of course a variant of Mjolnir but I continue to be mystically drawn to the Hammer symbol. This should not be surprising for when we consider that the Fyrfos or Swastika is but a Hammer in flight then we realise that Mjolnir is more than just a Hammer: it is a variant of the most sacred of our ancient Aryan symbols. The Hammer or Fyrfos represents the [apparently] revolving sun, an object which was deified by the Aryans from the very beginning. It is part of our sacred Ur-heritage.

From the time that our ancient pre-christian ancestors hailed the rising sun with an outstretched right arm the sun has remained as a mysterious numinous entity in the Collective Unconscious of the Aryan peoples. In Skaldskaparmal in the Younger/Prose Edda Snorri Sturluson clearly refers to Mjolnir being forged from iron. This should not surprise us for the ancients understood that iron is an excellent conductor of electricity and from Mjolnir proceeds the lightning that both destroys and creates.

The power to create and destroy was in the hand-literally of Thunor who at one time occupied a position superior to that which He occupied at the time of the composition of the Eddas. Significantly Elsa-Brita Titchenell in that great aryosophical work, The Masks of Odin states:


"The Hammer of Thor is Mjolnir[miller], the pulverising force that destroys as well as creates. It is the electric circuit which always returns to the hand that sent it forth. Symbolised by the Swastika, either three-or four-armed, it represents whirling motion, the ever moving power which never ceases while anything lives in time and space."


She goes on to explain that Thunor`s iron belt forms the circuit of electrical current, his steel gloves represent the duality of negative and positive polarity and his sons Magni[strength] and Modi[force] suggest cosmic poles of electricity or magnetism, love and hate. Unlike the posers, followers of Woden regard Mjolnir as a talisman and also a holy symbol, not as a piece of jewellery so we must give some thought as to the ideal construction and properties of a Mjolnir talisman.

In recent years it has become possible to purchase inexpensive Mjolnir pendants forged or cast from Iron or Steel. Iron in particular has a rough, rugged and primitive character that takes us back to the Iron Age of our Folk. Indeed archaeologists have recovered Mjolnir pendants made from Iron which are remarkably well preserved.

Akin to electricity is the relatively unknown force which we term Od, Wod or Vril and I believe that through the daily wearing of an iron or steel Mjolnir amulet the Woden initiate will be able to focus his ability in the attraction and circulation of Wod throughout his body whilst performing Rune Yoga exercises. We should also remember that the original Hammer of Thunor was not made of iron but stone.

In my article *Perkunos-The Original Name of the Northern European Thunder God[Aryan Myth and Metahistory-12/8/12] I stated: "These Thunder Gods all carry an axe or a hammer. The Baltic and Slavic Thunder Gods are generally seen with an axe which my readers will know from earlier articles is a much older weapon than the hammer and Thor`s hammer developed from this. Also the first axes were made of stone and this is reflected in the etymology of hammer which originally meant `stone`. The antiquity of the northern European Thunder God is also reflected in the Baltic and Slavic names which are derived from PIE *peru which means `stone`. Amongst our ancestors an association between the Thunder God and the stone axe was made in the concept of thunder falling to earth in the form of a stone axe." Clearly the concept of the Thunder God`s Axe or Hammer goes right back to the Stone Age, the very Ur-Zeit of the Aryan peoples. The wearing of the Hammer is thus in itself a sacred and magical act.

The Complete Armanen and The Untold Story-a Review

I have today completed my reading of The Complete Armanen and The Untold Story by the `55 Club`. For some reason the author has chosen to remain `anonymous` but then signs off with a personal name at the end of the work which I find rather confusing. The book is a collection of Armanist texts, many of which are rare and not previously translated into English. It is by its very nature not "complete". A change of title would be adviseable. Extracts of essential texts from Guido von List, Siegfried Adolf Kummer, Rudolf John Gorsleben, Karl Maria Wiligut, Friedrich Teltscher, Werner von Bolow, Karl Theodor Weigel and Miguel Serrano. The author is to be congratulated and thanked for producing this much needed work and it is hoped that there follows a second volume. The English speaking Germanic heathen world needs to be more acquainted with Armanist teachings. However despite this I have a few misgivings about the way in which these teachings have been presented. The book works well in those parts [which are the majority] where the author is simply presenting the original works translated into English and that is where the author`s contribution should have stopped. Many times I have purchased Wodenist/Wotanist/Odinist books authored by Americans and I find that all too often the language which they use is crude and simplistic as if the authors were writing in the same manner as they spoke and this is a very big mistake if one wishes to reach out to an intelligent and often non-American audience. Also I find the very crude racialist ranting off-putting. The author needs to take into account that the majority of people who purchase his books are likely to already have a folkish Weltanschauung and do not need to constantly read racial epithets littered throughout the text. There are some spelling and grammatical errors although these are very few indeed when one considers that this is a self-published work. I would strongly advise that The Complete Armanen be edited to remove anything which is not attributed to the original Armanist contributors. I believe strongly that one can be proud of his or her racial heritage without unnecessarily constantly demeaning other races. Indeed the Aryan takes the higher ground when he refrains from such behaviour. This is a lesson that we all have to learn-including myself. Lastly I find the constant references to `Mother Church`, christ and christianity rather grating. Many years ago when I used to post on Internet forums I coined the term `Pilgrim Fathers` Complex` to explain the inherent difficulties faced by folkish European-Americans who tried to explain the world in racial terms but still clung to the coattails of their jewish monotheistic christian religion. It is as if they like a young child cannot make that break, that they cling to the maternal apron. Unfortunately this book contains far too much christian apologetics for my personal taste. The early Armanist masters have much to teach us but they were to a certain extent[as we all are] a product of their time and we need to take this into consideration when we read their works. Armanism is a valuable spiritual discipline but it needs to be purged of its semi-christian theology. In `The Round Table` one member is noticeable by their absence: Savitri Devi. She was after all the precursor to Miguel Serrano and the real originator of Esoteric National Socialism. She should replace Francis Parker Yockey in any future reprint. Yockey is out of place in a work such as this. Over all I would award 4 out of 5 stars for this product for the above-stated reasons.

Blood Purity-a Necessity for Spiritual Awakening and Mastery

Time after time I have warned the readers of my blogs of the necessity of maintaining the purity of their racial blood lines, a sacred trust and an inheritance from our distant ancestors but also a duty to our yet unborn linear descendants. Blutschande is the most serious crime that an Aryan can commit against his race and folk and I hope that one day this crime will be recognised as such and punished accordingly once our peoples recover their freedom from the zionist yoke. The servants of the Demiurge lord of darkness understand that in this cosmic war in which we fight that our strongest possession is our blood or DNA as it is less prosaically termed, and they will do everything in their power to encourage Rassenmischung for by this process we destroy ourselves without a single gun being shot. It is the greatest form of treason that an Aryan could commit. By engaging in Blutschande they are spitting in the faces of their Folk, their ancestors and descendants, condemning the latter to eternal shame and disgrace. Therefore in the words of Der Meister Guido von List I appeal to my readers:"Your blood, your highest possession." Racial purity is the greatest gift that our ancestors have bestowed upon us and it is the most precious bequest that we can endow upon our descendants. For within the blood of the Aryan there lies the sacred quality of divinity. The Aryan is no mere human animal: we are nothing less than children of the Gods. However eons ago in our deep past a great crime was committed: the crime of Blutschande between the Aryan who at one time was the only human race so called, and the beastman resulting in the degeneration of our race but the upward improvement of the Untermensch. This activity now is actively encouraged by the dark lord`s minions for they know that if they can weaken us physically they can weaken us mentally, psychically and spiritually and the Aryan-the only and final bulwark against zionist world dominion will be crushed for all time. If they succeed the earth will eventually cease to exist and life will be extinguished. Psychic power and spiritual advancement are unavoidably connected to biological purity. The Aryan lost his psychic abilities when he engaged in Blutschande and caused impurities to creep into our Holy Graal blood pool. This is the real and underlying message in the story of Parsifal as interpreted by Wilhelm Richard Wagner. Today awakened Aryan man awaits his Parsifal who is the renewed embodiment of the Germanic God Woden, His spear being that of the Allfather`s-Gungnir. Parsifal will come and the tide will be turned against the desert God`s hordes. His forerunner did come in 1889 but the outer non-German Aryan world which was heavily under the yoke of the cosmopolitan tribe of international bankers resisted Him and His message of salvation. He was never destined to succeed in His mission but He recognised that after Him one should come: "I have seen the man of the future; he is cruel; I am frightened by him". It is He who will right all wrongs, halt and indeed reverse this period of involution which is against nature and thus antinature or unnatural. Nature seeks division into separate species and subspecies for it is through this process that evolution or upward improvement may occur. Rassenmischung is therefore antinature and unnatural. It will be halted! Through the science of Aryan man which is currently in its infancy we will use genetic engineering to remove the biological damage that has been inflicted upon our blood pool and begin the task of producing the Uebermensch of the future! To quote from Miguel Serrano via The Complete Armanen: "Between 1914-1918, during the First World War, in the great crisis of the Kali Yuga, or Age of the Wolf, there was an overturning of the sympathetic system of Aryan peoples. This made possible the coming of the Avatar, Hitler, a premonition of the future Kalki" He goes on to discuss the presence of a special additional nerve bundle present amongst those of Aryan blood which is not to be found in other races which makes the Aryan capable of psyhcic and spiritual advancement, an ability which he once had to the full before the fall of Atlantis. Today the awakened Aryo-Germanic man may achieve spiritual mastery and greater awakening via the practice of Rune Yoga.

Woden, the Aarman/Arman/Urman

There is a clear connection between Woden and the eagle. In the Eddas Woden is portrayed as the Raven God but he does have the ability to transform Himself into an eagle. By contrast the ravens were Woden`s messengers and symbolised his memory[Munin] and His thought[Hugin]. He did not metamorphosise into this species of bird. By contrast the eagle, the aar is viewed as the most noble species of bird and in the tale of the capture of the mead from Suttung it is into this bird that Woden transforms Himself in order to escape with the mead back to Esegard. We also recall that the eagle[who is not named] is perched at the top of the world tree, Yggdrasil, symbolising higher and awakened consciousness, the world tree being a symbol of the spinal column. It is the awakening of the aar chacra that the aarman-arman aspires to achieve. Woden achieved this awakening with the acquisition and consumption of the sacred mead Odroerir[ON, `the one that stimulates to ecstasy`]. Some drops of this mead fell to earth during His flight which is sufficient for us to attain a similar awakened state. Woden is thus the original aarman[eagleman], the original arman[sunman/initiate] and the Urman[original man-arman-aryan]. He is the prototypical Urmensch that we His children aspire to emulate.

The Mead Horn and the Awakening of our Gods

The purpose of ritual in Germanic heathenism is to not repeat dead rituals but to create something new in the subjective[internal] and objective[external] worlds. By participating in our wheel of the year rites in the cosmic rhythm of the seasons we are in microcosm reflecting the macrocosm; as above, so below. Vilhelm Gronbech in The Culture of the Teutons Volumes 1 and 2 states: "This is the reason why all words and acts are frought with infinite consequence; the space is filled with creation, and every act gives birth to events to come.[Page 356] By engaging in our rites we are participating in an act of creation. "This reiteration or renovation, as we should call it, is not a repetition of an act primarily and for all time created years or ages ago. The present re-acting is as primary, as original as the very first acting; and the participants are not witnesses to the deed of some hero or god, not reproducers who revive the deed, but simply and literally the original heroes who send fateful deeds into the world, whether it be battles long ago or the creation of Middle-garth. In the recreation of the legend, in the ceremonial act, the earth is prepared for the living of man....."[Page 358] Our regular invocation of the Gods and our imbibing of the mead or ale made sacred by the sign of Thunor`s hammer from the mead horn allows us at that moment to enter into a state of communion with our Gods, in particular Woden, an idea which was hijacked by the christian church. The mead according to our lore imparts wisdom and inspiration to us and reminds us of the sacred mead which has its origins in the blood of Kvasir, a God born from the saliva of both the Aesir and Vanir at the conclusion of the war between these two pantheons. Mead has a particular significance in the mythologies of the Germanic and other Aryan peoples which I do not intend to go into here but reserve for another article. By our remembrance and invocation of the Gods of the Germanic peoples we are participating in their awakening. This process is a two way one for our Gods are awakening Their elect amongst our folk. The sun-born, Woden-born initiates are responding to the call of the Gods which is at the same time a call of the blood. The Gods are stirring in our very DNA and those who wyrd it is to join Woden`s elite warrior band of Einheriar will respond. Woden is quietly preparing His priestly order and they will take their place as the future priest-kings of the reborn and purified Aryo-Germanic Folk.

The Complete Armanen and the Untold Story

I recently started to read a newly published work which collects together some essential Armanist texts, The Complete Armanen and the Untold Story by the `55 Club`, the author wishing to remain anonymous. I am not yet ready to give a full review of this book; I merely wish to draw it to my readers` attention for you to consider purchasing it. The chapters include the following: Introduction. Song of the High One. Guido von List. Siegfried Adolf Kummer. The Edda Society. Karl Marie von Wiligut. The SS. Don Miguel Serrano Fernandez. The Round Table. Conclusion. The book is nicely illustrated and authored by an Armanist. Also to my pleasant surprise he does refer to my Aryan Myth and Metahistory blog on the reference pages. The English speaking world is in urgent need of the dissemination of such teachings so please support the author!

A Search For an Anglo-Saxon Alternative to the Term `Priest`

I have over recent years pondered on the terminology that we should be using for the function of `priest` within our heathen rites. `Priest` is a universally understood term but I am a little troubled over the christian connotations and wish to explore alternative and more Germanic terms. `Preost` is a term used by the Anglo-Saxons[See A Concise Anglo-Saxon Dictionary by J.R. Clark Hall]. However from my studies of the term it appears to originate with the christian priesthood via presbyter. This in my opinion would make it unsuitable for us to use. Our research is limited by the scant amount of original Anglo-Saxon literature, especially during the pre-conversion period as pre-christian Germanic society was largely a pre-literate one. Literacy was reserved for the rune masters and priests. Therefore we must also resort to exploring the terms used by other Germanic peoples. Before we do this we need to consider if there are any other Anglo-Saxon alternatives to preost. Aeweweard could be a suitable term but its pronunciation may be too difficult for some to to accept in everyday useage. Also strictly speaking the term is defined as `law-guardian`[Rudolf Simek, Northern Mythology]. The astute observer will note the second part of this word-weard, a term which we already use for hearth and gemoot warders. If we recall the Icelandic example the priest was also a temporal chieftain although the situation was different among the non-Scandinavian Germanic peoples where the two offices were separate. Heargweard is a more interesting and in my opinion relevant term for the hearg was the sanctuary or temple and thus a heargweard was the guardian of the temple. In Iceland the priests were called gothar, the singular being gothi, the female gythja. The Gothic equivalent gudja corresponds closely to the Old Norse gudija. A temple priest in Icelandic would be a hofgothi. Clearly gothi`s specific meaning is `god man`. Hofgothi is very similar to the Anglo-Saxon heargweard with similar connotations. On balance I am in favour of the use of the term heargweard as Anglo-Saxons and Saxons this is more likely to be term which our ancestors used and differentiates us from Odinism and Asatru. We do not need to be dependent on their terminology nor do we need to use terms that are christian in origin or connotation. I have decided to post this article on all three of my blogs as I wish this to have as wide a circulation as possible to encourage reflection and debate.

Rune Galdr

In my experience I have found that there are 5 elements to rune galdr and these may be summarised as follows: Breathing technique. Intonation of the runic name or mantra. Adopting the runic posture. Visualisation of the rune. Concentration on the essence and meaning of the rune. Although these are specific acts and disciplines which must initially be learned and mastered individually, with time and experience the master will engage in all 5 actions simultaneously. When this occurs one will effectively be engaging in not only a spiritual practice which each of the above mentioned elements constitutes but will be causing real change to occur in both the spiritual[subjective universe] and the physical[objective universe].

Four works by Edred Thorsson[Stephen E. Flowers, PhD] which are particularly useful for those wishing to master these techniques are: Nine Doors of Midgard. Rune Lore. Futhark. Rune Might. Although Nine Doors of Midgard uses exclusively the 24 rune Elder or Common Germanic Futhark the techniques may be adopted for use with the 33 rune Anglo-Saxon or Northumbrian Futhork, the 16 rune Younger Futhark or the 18 rune Armanen Futhork. It should be noted that Rune Might exclusively focuses on the Armanen Futhork. Whilst Edred focuses mainly on the Elder Futhark in most of his runic works he is clearly influenced by the teachings of the great Armanen Rune Masters; in particular Guido von List. He has been instrumental in bringing these vitally important works to the English speaking world with his translation and publication of von List`s Das Geheimnis der Runen[The Secret of the Runes], Die Religion der Ario-Germanen[The Religion of the Aryo-Germanic Folk, Der Unbesiegbar[The Invinceable] and In Rune Might he puts forward the essential teaching and practices of the Armanen. Edred has also published the works of Karl Maria Wiligut in The Secret King: Karl Maria Wiligut, Himmler`s Lord of the Runes[2006] and recently updated and added to the text in a later edition: The Secret King: The Myth and Reality of Nazi Occultism[2007].

The Ancient Teutonic Priesthood

Due to a comment made by Julius Caesar in his De Bello Gallico[The Gallic War]that the ancient Germans had "no druids" has been misinterpreted over the years by scholars who have then used this as a premise to argue that there was no such thing as a Teutonic priesthood which we know to be absolutely absurd. "The customs of the Germans are very different from those of the Gauls. They have no druids to preside over religious matters, nor do they concern themselves with sacrifices".[Sixth Book, paragraph 21]

Of course we know from the slightly later writings of Tacitus, notably in his Germania that the Germans not only had priests but these priests offered public sacrifices. I very much doubt that in the space of less than 150 years that their customs changed so radically. The Teutons certainly did not have `druids` for this is specific to the Celtic peoples but we know from the Roman historian Tacitus that they did have priests and a pantheon of Gods. Even this is brought into doubt by Caesar: "The only things which they count as gods are things they can see and which clearly benefit them, for example, the Sun, Vulcan, and the Moon. They have not even heard rumours of any others."[Sixth Book, paragraph 21].

`Vulcan` is taken to mean the element or deity of fire. Whilst it is clear that the Teutons did honour these three things as representative of Gods it is inconceiveable that by the time of Tacitus in the following century that they suddenly had a developed pantheon of Gods and Goddesses and not one at the time of Caesar. Tacitus either did not know the correct Teutonic names of our Gods and Godesses or chose to give them Latin names as he wrote for a Roman readership. "As for gods, Mercury is the one they worship most, and on certain days they think it right to propitiate him even with human victims. Hercules and Mars they appease with lawful animals. Part of the Suebi sacrifice also to Isis; I have not ascertained the source from which this foreign rite originates, but the fact remains that the image itself, fashioned in the form of a light ship, proves that the cult is imported. In other matters, they judge it not in accord with the greatness of the gods to confine them with walls or to liken them in appearance to any human countenance. They consecrate woods and groves, and the mystery that they see only in their awe they call by the names of gods." "[Tacitus` Germania 9.1 and 9.2]

It is assumed by scholars that Mercury, Hercules and Mars are names that Tacitus gave to represent our Woden, Thunor and Tiw. Isis may very well be the Goddess Nehalennia[a Dutch deity] or Nerthus. I also speculate that this could in fact be the very mysterious and obscure Goddess, Isa. "Then come the Reudigni, the Aviones, the Anglii, the Varini, the Eudoses, the Suarines, and the Nuitones, defended by rivers or woods. There is nothing noteworthy about them individually, except that collectively they worship Nerthus, or Mother Earth, and believe that she takes part in human affairs and rides among the peoples." [Germania 40.2]

Tacitus also refers to the deities Tuisto and Mannus[Germania 2.2]. Thus it is clear that the Teutons did in fact have a developed pantheon of Gods who they ascribed proper names and personalities to. We also know this to be the case from later writings by christian priests and from the Icelandic sagas and there is every reason to believe that there was a continuous and unbroken tradition over the centuries which knew only a geographic variation with local cults of deities.

Germania 9 makes it clear that the Teutons did offer both animal and human sacrifices. Furthermore if sacrifices were offered to the Gods then it reasonable to assume that there was a recognised priesthood to carry out this function. In Germania 40.3 Tacitus refers to such a priesthood: "On an island in the Ocean is a holy grove, and in it a consecrated wagon covered with hangings; to one priest alone is it permitted so much as to touch it. He perceives when the goddess is present in her innermost recess, and with great reverence escorts her as she is drawn along by heifers."

It is clear from Tacitus description and carefully chosen words that Nerthus, the Goddess he is referring to had more than one priest-"to one priest alone...." and thus this constitutes a priestly order. Adam of Bremen referred to the great temple at Uppsala and its priesthood: "Assigned to all their gods they have priests to present the sacrifices of the people." Bede of course refers to the Anglo-Saxon priest Coifu in his History of the English Church and People.

The Teutonic priesthood unlike the Celtic druidic orders was not a national priesthood but one which was restricted to the tribe and thus there will be differences between them, especially as certain deities were only recognised by specific tribes, such as Nerthus and Nehalennia. The Teutonic priests had charge of the sacred groves[the precursors of the later temples], the administration of justice, public sacrifices, the casting of lots, interpretation of omens and the safeguarding of the law. In the far north the function of priest and chieftain or king was most likely combined into a single office. A typical example is that of the Icelandic gothi. No doubt they carried this tradition with them from their native Norway. We have no reason to suppose that there were no priestesses.The female equivalent of the gothi, the gythia is attested to in the Icelandic sagas.

The temple was more than likely a development from the sacred grove. "It has been observed that among the Indo-Europeans the most ancient temples that were dedicated to the gods were sacred groves. In his survey of European folklore, Jacob Grimm observed that among the ancient Germans the oldest temples were groves. This was the case in all the lands where the Indo-Europeans held sway as the grove was the original place where the sacred was revered."[The Druids, G. Alexander] The temple at Uppsala was surrounded by a grove. Tacitus in Germania 39 refers to the sacred grove of the Suebi and in Germania the sacred grove of Nerthus. In smaller organisational units such as the clan or or family the head of the clan or the family performed the duties associated with the priest. "In the smaller organisations of society then, priestly duties seem to have been performed by the temporal chief. It is only the great organisation, the tribe or state, which possesses a class with exclusively priestly functions."[The Ancient Teutonic Priesthood, H. The Irminsul and the Task of the Ar-man

The Irminsul or Yggdrasil of Germanic mythology represents the world tree of the northern world. Its trunk provides a pathway and access to the nine worlds which are not only places but states of being. This concept is an extremely ancient one and has its origins in the pre-Germanic Aryan era. A similar tradition existed amongst the Vedic Aryans. The presence of the two systems is surely evidence of their origin in a common Aryan source before the division of the Aryan peoples took place.

For several years now as an Associate of the Rune Gild I have been engaging in runic exercises and meditations which have the purpose of releasing the Kundalini serpent power. This exercise is to be found under the sections covering the Yew Working in Edred Thorssons Nine Doors of Midgard. It does take several years to work through the nine doors and I am now most of the way through the bulk of the curriculum.

I would like to focus on just two aspects of the Yggdrasil today and that is the presence of the eagle who is perched at the top of the world tree and the serpent or dragon[the terms are interchangeable] who sits at the bottom. The dragon/serpent Nidhoggr[ON-`the one striking full of hatred`] is at enmity with the eagle who is unnamed. The agent of this discord is a squirrel called Ratatoskr[ON-`drill-tooth`] who runs up and down the trunk of the tree conveying messages between the two parties. This on the surface may seem to be a negative and malicious act. However it is a necessary one for Ratatoskr is the means by which the two polar opposites interact and this interaction causes a dynamic flow of energy up and down the tree trunk which should be likened to the spinal column.

The dragon/serpent represents the sleeping Kundalini serpent power which lies dormant at the base of the column. It is aroused via the dynamic action of Ratatoskr and this creates energy in the form of friction[via the Nauthiz rune]. This energy may be directed by the initiate into the various wheels/chakras[energy centres] situated along the column. These wheels should be looked upon as being worlds or states of being/consciousness which may be experienced and activated. The ultimate aim of course is to activate the highest energy centre above the crown of the head, termed the Black Hole chakra by Miguel Serrano.

As a practitioner of the northern tradition I believe in the concept of a nine not a seven wheel system which accords with the tradition of the nine worlds in Germanic cosmology. Through the regular practice of runic kundalini we achieve a personal awakening but this is something that is gradual and needs to be worked at on an almost day to day basis. This practice is not something that should be openly offered to the profane but reserved for the Sun Initiates which includes the Priests of Wodan.

The Ar rune of the Armanen Futhork signifies several things-the primal fire[`Urfyr`], the sun, light, god, and the rune stave represents as a hieroglyph the Aar[eagle][See Das Geheimnis der Runen/The Secret of the Runes-Guido von List].[ One of Wodan`s many by-names is Arnhofdi, meaning `the one with the eagle`s head`[ON]. It is of course the eagle-the Aar which sits at the top of the world tree. It is the function of the Ar-man[the Sun Initiate, Aryan] to achieve this state of supreme awakened consciousness and individuation. There is a close linguistic association between the aar[eagle] and the ar[sun] in Armanism, hence the term Ar-man[Sun Initiate], the Arya or Aryan. This of course is the truer and deeper interpretation of the term.

The Sacred Spears of the Germanic Priest-Kings




During the latter half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century a number of sacred spears belonging to the pre-christian Germanic tribes were located in modern day Germany, Sweden and Poland, being the Kovel spear, the Dahmsdorf spear, the Rozwadow spear and the Moos spear.
What these spears have in common is their construction-Iron with silver inlay and their runic inscriptions.
The one from Dahmsdorf has the inscription Ansuz-Jera-Nauthiz-Ansuz-Raitho. The inscription reading from right to left says ranja, ie the "runner". Edred Thorsson in his The Mysteries of the Goths speculates that this has the meaning of "the one which causes[them] to flee". The owner of the spear may have been a Burgundian, originally an East Germanic tribe.
It dates from around 250CE and it also contains solar and lunar symbols and was discovered in 1865 during the construction of a train station at Dahmsdorf-Muecheberg.
This and the other spears were never used in combat and clearly were of ceremonial purpose. Either these spears belonged to tribal priests or were symbolic totems of regal power belonging to chieftains.
The spear was the original and favoured weapon of the Germanic peoples and every Germanic freeman, every warrior possessed one as a mark of his status. In the case of chieftains and priests these were obviously more elaborate as these spears clearly have a mystical purpose.
We are of course reminded of Gungnir, the spear of Wotan/Wodan/Woden/Odin which likewise was according to Sigdrifumal 17 insricribed with 17 runes on its tip. It would of course be tempting to speculate what they are. It is of course possible that this may be a version of the normally 16 runes Younger Futhark.
It contains a Triskelion and a Swastika, both of which are solar symbols. These spears also contain tamgas which are Sarmatian or Scythian tribal symbols and thus show a connection with the steppe dwelling Iranian tribes who lived close to the East Germanic peoples.
The Germanic peoples considered themselves to be the offspring of their Gods and nobles in particular often reckoned their descent from Wodan. Therefore it is natural for a Germanic chieftain or king to possess a sacred spear as a symbol of the Wodan given regal power.
Later in the post-conversion times and the arising of the Parsifal myth the sacred spear or lance features as the symbolic weapon of the Grail king.
We know that the Holy Lance or spear of Longinus which allegedly currently resides in the Hofburg Museum in Wien has been dated to no earlier than the 7th century CE and therefore is not contemporary with the times of the so-called Christ.
No doubt this spear falls into a similar category as the four runic spears referred to in this article.

Profession/Initiation and its Importance

Initiation or profession as it is often called is an important step to take for those who have returned to their ancient spiritual path of Wodenism/Wotanism/Odinism.
It marks a break with the personal past as in effect Christian baptism does but unlike Christian baptism it signifies a return to one`s natural ethnic spiritual path. So in other words it signifies a return to the past, not the personal past but the collective, ancestral ethnic past, a return to the pre-christian gods of our forefathers.
Initiation is an act of will, an act of personal and often external recognition. In my case I swore an oath of profession in the presence of witnesses in the Order to which I belong after a period of apprenticeship but I appreciate that not everyone is a member of such an organisation and may live in geographical or indeed imposed or self-imposed isolation. In such circumstances it is acceptable to undertake a form of self-initiation.
The difference between the two forms is that profession as part of an organisation confers certain rights, privileges and responsibilities, not only to the Gods but fellow sworn members. Oaths of allegiance to ones spiritual kinsmen and masters are sworn in addition to allegiance to the Gods.
Initiation acts as an internal trigger or switch in the psyche and a spiritual turning point. It also gives the initiate an opportunity to forswear any previous Christian or other baptismal promises.
In the time of the forced outward conversion of the Teutonic peoples to Christianity the following oath or variants of it were sworn:

"end ec forsacho allum diaboles uuercum and uuordum, Thunaer ende UUoden ende Saxnote ende allum them unholdum the hira genotas sint.
[`I renounce all deeds and words of the devil, Thor, Wodan and Saxnot and all fiends which are their companions`.]"

It is important therefore that when swearing oaths of allegiance and profession that a statement is included whereby the initiate renounces the Christian god and his works. When a few years ago I professed a family member I constructed a rite which included such a renouncing of the Christian god and his `son`.
For those who are not a member of an Odinist organisation and/or do not wish to join one then self initiation is perfectly valid. You will know the right time to undertake this.
A suitably worded rite of self initiation may be found in the recently published work Vor Forn Sidr by Dr Casper Odinson Crowell.
Of course in a deeper sense initiation is an internal and ongoing process and is always entirely self-initiated. So perhaps it would be clearer to differentiate the outward rite from the inward process by calling it profession. However the two terms are interchangeable.

Further Insights on the Aegishjalmur




I intitially discussed this subject on this blog on 27/9/12.
Recently I have meditated further on this mysterious Germanic magical sign.
The power of the Aegishjalmur may be used for both defensive and offensive purposes.
The power should be visualised as emanating from between the brow of the eyes and the forehead where is situated the pineal gland.
In eons past when Aryo-Germanic man lived in close communion with nature and the cosmos the pineal gland acted as a `third eye`. Steadily with the gross materialism of our Folk and racial degeneration the gland steadily lost its psychic abilities and now in most Teutons lies dormant. It is only with great spiritual effort or with a natural inherited gift that we can deactivate and utilise this facility.
As an initiated member of the Wodenist faith my means of reopening this faculty is through the practice of runic meditation and magic.
The spinal column should be viewed as a physical and human manifestation of the Irminsul or the Yggdrasil along which currents of runic power-ond is transmitted backwards and forwards to reopen the chakras or runic wheels within the psycho-physical human complex.
This power is serpentine in nature and belongs to the serpent or dragon mysteries of the North. Siegmund, Siegfried/Sigurd and the rest of the Volsung/Waelsung clan were sun/serpent initiates and guardians of this sacred lore. Ultimately this knowledge was derived from their ancestor Woden.
The pineal gland is dominated by the Ansus/Os/Ass rune, the rune which is specific to Woden. It is also associated with the eagle which resides at the top of Yggdrasil and represents the sun and the awakening of the sun initiate. Constant runic meditation and magical exercises will gradually cause the Ansuz chakra to open and enlightenment to come to the initiate.
The concept of the Aegishjalmur is exceedingly ancient as its etymology aegis is derived from the PIE *agh-es and then the Proto-Germanic *egis. Undoubtedly this concept derives from the secret lore of the undivided Aryan Folk.
Here follows my original article:

One of the most powerful magical signs in the arsenal of the Rune Master is the Aegishjalmur. This sign is also known as the Helm of Awe or Terror. Potentially it can be devised as a very complex sign but basically it is either a four or eight fold equal armed cross with branches at its terminal points.
The Helm of Awe grants its wearer power both of a psychic and of a physical nature over his or her enemies.
According to Dr Stephen Flowers[Edred Thorsson] in The Galdrabok An Icelandic Book of Magic "The aegishjalmur is mentioned in the material concerning Sigurdr Fafnisbani. When Sigurdr slays the great etin-worm, or serpent, named Fafnir in order to win the treasure hoard of the Niflungs[Nibelungen], on of the "objects" of power that he gets is the aegishjalmur. This object is not a "helmet" in the usual sense, but rather a general covering that surrounds the wearer with an overawing power to terrify and subdue his enemies. The power is concentrated between the eyes and is often associated with the supposed power of serpents to paralyse their prey. This is apparently an ancient Indo-European concept, as shown in the etymology of the Greek-the one with the evil eye."
The sign can also be used to attract a mate. According to spell 8 of The Galdrabok after fasting make the sign of awe from spittle in the palm of your right hand when you greet the girl that you have chosen.
In Richard Wagner`s Die Walkuere Act One Scene One Hunding notices that both his wife Sieglinde and her future lover Siegmund[twins and parents of Siegfried] have the serpent look in their eyes, a sign of Waelsung or Volsung blood.

"Wie gleicht er dem Weibe!
Der gleissende Wurm
glaentzt auch ihm aus dem Auge."


In the Volsunga Saga Sigurd`s [Siegfried] appearance is described in detail and it has this to say about his eyes: "His eyes flashed so piercingly that few dared look beneath his brow."

Nigel Pennick in his The Complete Illustrated Guide to the Runes informs us that the Helm of Awe is made up of 8 Elhaz runes combined with 24 cross arms that represent the runes of the Elder Futharc.
He states "In ancient Iceland, Helm of Awe amulets were made of lead, the metal ruled by the awesome power of the thunder-god, Thor. When a warrior preparing for combat used the insigil, he pressed a small lead Helm of Awe between his eyes. According to custom this is where the insigil should be worn, in the place where its power is greatest. The warrior then made the affirmation "I bear the Helm of Awe between my brows." Visualising the insigil and feeling its power, he went fearlessly into battle."
Could this be the secret or one of the secrets of the famous Berserker rage?

Aryaman/Airyaman/Ariomanus/Eremon/Irmin-the Divine Concept of Aryanness





Within the various Indo-European mythologies there exists a God who encapsulates within Himself the very nature and essence of Aryan man.
My readers may wish to familiarise themselves with the contents of my article "`Ar` as a Prefix in Aryan God/Goddess Names" posted on 4/8/12 on this blog before going any further.
Aryaman[Indo-Aryan], Airyaman[Iranian], Irmin[Germanic], Ariomanus[Celtic-Gallic] and Eremon[Celtic-Irish] are all cognates of the same deity which must hearken back to Proto-Indo-European times. Apart from the linguistic similarity, these Indo-European peoples are spread over different parts of the globe making linguistic borrowing highly unlikely. Therefore the undivided Aryans must have had a common name for this God.
Aryaman is a solar deity and represents the spirit and very essence of Aryan society.
Jaan Puhvel has this to say about Him: "Aryaman- is originally a neuter abstract, something like `Aryanness`, the deified embodiment of social self-identification."
He goes on to link Aryaman with the Iranian Airyaman: "His Indo-Iranian ancestry is proved by his Avestan counterpart Airyaman...."[Comparative Mythology].
Eremon[Irish] is closely related to Ariomanus[Gallic]. Puhvel states: The king of the sons of Mil, Eremon, is etymologically the equivalent of the Gaulish Ariomanus, reflecting the same personified *aryomn `Aryanness` as is seen in the Vedic Aryaman and the Iranian Airyaman."
The sons of Mil is a mythological reference to the Celtic and thus Aryan invaders of Ireland/Eire-the land of the Aryans.
These Celtic and Indo-Iranian deities are all connected amongst other things with road building and marriage contracting.
Furthermore Puhvel links these four deities with the Germanic Irmin who is specifically a Saxon God. The Irminsul, which is the West Germanic equivalent to the North Germanic Yggdrasil, a world pillar or tree contains the name of this deity, signifying that like His cognates He is a solar deity. The Old Saxon word irmintheod means `mankind` and by extension `Irmin`s people`. Again we have the same sort of meaning as found in the name Aryaman.
We can draw further links with the Indo-Aryan Manu or the Germanic Mannus. Mannus is the divine ancestor of the Germanic peoples. Manu has a similar position amongst the Indo-Aryans. The `manus` in Ariomanus and the `mon` in Eremon may be indirectly linked to this Indo-European divine ancestor.
*Aryomn, the reconstructed PIE word for this deity indicates that His presence is to be found not only amongst the Indo-Iranians but to the chagrin of the Aryan-hating liberal multiracialists He is present amongst the Celts and Teutons as well indicating once more the appropriateness of the term `Aryan` as a self-designation for all native Indo-Europeans. It is also an indication that `aryanness` is a concept worth cherishing and protecting. It is the spiritual and physical essence of who we are as Aryans.
Thus the Ar-man is the son[ar] of light, he is the son of the Aryan Gods and Goddesses as we have long known and felt within us. His totem is the eagle, the aar and his rune is the ar rune:" The `ar`, the `urfyr`[primal fire, god], the `sun`, the `light` will destroy spiritual as well as physical darkness, doubt, and uncertainty. In the sign of the Ar the Aryans-the sons of the sun-founded their law[Rita], the primal law of the Aryans, of which the earn, or eagle[Aaar], is the hieroglyph."[Guido von List, The Secret of the Runes/Das Geheimnis der Runen].

The Icelandic Wolf Hammer





This Thor`s Hammer dates back to 10th century Foss in south-western Iceland. Its origins are mysterious and there are unresolved issues about its symbolism. Some claim that it is a hammer, some a cross, some that it has the image of a dragon at its head, some say that it is a wolf.

Is it a hammer of Thor, a christian cross or a syncretism of the two at a time of a `dual faith` Iceland?
My opinion is that it is most definitely a hammer as can be discerned from the round shape of its arms. If it were a cross then one would have to conclude that it is inverted and thus non-christian or even anti-christian! The presence of a cross shape in the centre of where the arms meet is not of a typical cruciform shape but resembles that of the pre-xtian Aryan sunwheel form. As readers of my blogs will be aware I have covered this issue of the Aryan pre-xtian symbol of the cross in other articles. Also the symbol of the cross in the form of the Gebo or Gyfu rune also appears on the Danish Bornholm hammer.

As for the notion that this was a `secret hammer` worn by post-conversion heathens who clung to their faith secretly I believe that this is nonsense. Germanic heathenism was tolerated in Iceland for a while after the peaceful conversion and there would have been no need for any such closet demonstrations of our faith. Furthermore the hammer predates the conversion and this fact itself invalidates their argument.

The very fact that an animal head-either that of a wolf or a dragon appears at the top is an indication of its heathen symbolism. Is the head a dragon or a wolf? If a dragon then this would more appropriately agree with the mythical connotations of Mjolnir being the instrument by which Thor slays the Midgardwyrm.

We know of course that both the wolf and the dragon feature prominently in Germanic mythology and that the werwolf legend has its basis in the Icelandic Volsunga myth of Sigurd, the shape-changing man-wolf and destroyer of the dragon.

This form of the hammer is worn by the current Allsherjargothi of the Icelandic Asatru Association Hilmar Orn Hilmarsson and may make a suitable alternative to the more commercial forms of the hammer that are available and worn by non-believing re-enactment enthusiasts!
This hammer tends to invoke a more fearful response in the faces of xtians that I have encountered on the few occasions that I have worn one! It thus is both a potent heathen symbol and a powerful weapon against our enemies.

Alternative modern interpretations of this hammer sometimes feature a Tyr or Tiwaz rune instead of a cross in the centre.

Gungnir, Symbol of All-Father Woden and its Significance





Gungnir is the chosen weapon and primary symbol of All-Father Woden and its origins stretch right back into prehistory. Both a spear God and a hammer God are represented in Scandinavian Bronze Age rock art and the spear is an intregal aspect of the Woden myth.
Originally spear heads as with axe-heads[the forerunner of the hammer] were made from stone and so these weapons as symbols are extremely ancient as our Gods themselves are and predate the Eddas by thousands of years.

Viktor Ryberg in Teutonic Mythology volume one states: "The oldest and most sacred weapons were the spear, the hammer, the club, and the axe
Its meaning in Old Norse is "swaying one" and this immediately brings to my mind the symbolism of the Irminsul or Yggdrasil, the world ash tree which is the gateway to the nine worlds which Woden mastered in His shamanic aspect.The shaft of Gungnir is also made from the ash and its head forged by the sons of Ivaldi. During the Ragnarok the world ash will sway, indeed it will be violently shaken in the destruction that is yet to come. Interestingly the first three letters of Ragnarok reversed spell Gar!

The image of the spear is represented in two Rune staves: Tiwaz and Gar. Tiwaz is most definitely spear shaped but also reprsents the celestial pole and the cosmic axis in the form of the Irminsul. Whilst this Rune is dedicated to the most ancient of our Gods-Tiw or Tyr, the original Sky God or All-Father it was in a sense eclipsed by the later Gar Rune which only appears in the Northumbrian Futhorc, a later version of the Anglo-Saxon or Anglo-Frisian Futhorc. By the emergence of the Germanic peoples into the history books Woden/Wotan/Wuotan/Wodan/Odin had become the most powerful of our Asa Gods and took over the title of All-Father. The Gar Rune is specifically dedicated to Him and even the very name of the Rune is Germanic for spear so there can be no doubt about its meaning.

Gar is the 33rd Rune of the Northumbrian Futhorc but it stands apart from the four Aetts. It reprsents a central position as the pole. It is the beginning and the fulfillment of all things.
Ideographically as a bind Rune it also represents the Gift of Ing, a subject which I may touch upon in a future article. Gar consists of a Gebo or Gyfu Rune superimposed upon an Ingwaz Rune. The Ingwaz Rune is disected into four smaller Ingwaz runes and four diamond shaped spear points are also found, representing the four cardinal directions and Woden`s lordship over them all. Contained within each of the four cardinal directions of Gar are 3 separate spear like shapes,a diamond and three open triangles. These 12 shapes symbolise the rule of the twelve primary Aesir, the twelve signs of the zodiac, the twelve months of the year, each governed by two Runes of the Elder Futhark.
Also contained within the Gar stave are four Sowilo staves although not of the usual form. This speaks to me of His victory and dominance over the four cardinal directions.

Gungnir is thus representative of the lordship of Woden over the universe and in times of battle He cast his spear over the enemy host to claim the victory. In ancient Germanic times our ancestors would employ the same technique in battle to dedicate the enemy as a sacrifice to the All-Father as Lord of the Slain and to gain favour from Woden.

Whilst hanging as a sacrifice upon the world ash as a gift or Gyfu unto Himself he pierced His side with Gungnir to further hallow and enhance the holy sacrifice. As an aside I would recommend that in the eventuality of a follower of Woden facing imminent death that He or She should make a symbolic cut upon their flesh to signify their self Sacrifice to Him to ease their acceptance into Walhalla.

The wearing of a Gungnir pendant will also mark you out as a follower of Him.
The spear of Woden plays a significant part in the first three music dramas of Wagner`s Der Ring des Nibelungen, Das Rheingold, Die Walkuere and Siegfried. The theme of the spear then continues in the Master`s final work, Parsifal where it appears as the male principle in conjunction with the female principle of the Grail.

The Labrys and Aryan Culture


Followers of my four blogs will be aware of the great importance that I attach to the Aryan symbol of the axe which is very clearly a forerunner of the hammer of Thunor.
Rune workers will already be aware of the axe or at least the single headed axe being represented in the Rune Thurisaz/Thorn/Thurs.

Ideographically and conceptually this Rune is linked to Thunor and is the destroyer of the etins[giants]. Its resemblance to the thorn also emphasises that it is a weapon of defence as well as attack and this particular name-Thorn is represented in both the Anglo-Saxon/Northumbrian and the Armanen futhorcs. It also signifies regeneration[following destruction-see Futhark by Edred Thorsson]. The lightning of Thunor fertilises and regenerates the earth, breaking down barriers to resistance.

Today our earth is in need of regeneration following the ever increasing devastation which has been wrought upon it by man which has intensified since the era of the industrial revolution. Likewise our race needs to be regenerated but perhaps more than this it needs to be reborn, to transform into something new and higher as the Fifth Root Race begins to die and to make way for the Coming Race, the Sixth Root Race which will have its foundations in the purer aspects of the Aryan race.
Who knows whether this Coming Race will arise naturally or through the intervention of man and his current and future scientific knowledge and technical ability and adaptation.

This hammer or axe when in motion forms the appearance of a moving swirling Swastika to the human eye and thus there is a link between the axe-hammer of Thunor and the Swastika, another of the most sacred symbols of our race. Let us not forget that Thunor is a sky God and it is natural to link Him with symbols of the sun just as we link Woden with the Sunwheel. The Aesir are sky and sun deities. They represent vigour and the martial aspect of both our Gods and the Aryan race which is a race of Sun Initiates.

Whilst Thurisaz/Thorn/Thurs represents a single bladed or headed axe with a male polarity the Labrys represents a double bladed or headed axe and is to be found on munuments, on pottery and other artifacts all over the ancient Aryan world or wherever the Aryan was once dominant. Indeed it is even to be found on one of the sarcens at Stonehenge.

Elizabeth Goldsmith in her Ancient Pagan Symbols states: The Sacred Double Axe as a religious symbol of the sun is pre-eminently associated with the island of Crete. We know from excavations on Crete and in particular at Knossos that this island was a centre of early Aryan civilisation. King Minor built the labrynth which housed the infamous Minotaur, a half man-half bull hybrid that was offered human virgins as a form of sacrifice. The labrynth translates as the "house of the labrys".
I believe that certain scholars are wrong when they identify the labrys with a Goddess culture. What it does signify is a balance of polarities between male and female and this idea is graphically portrayed in the Rune stave Dagaz/Dag which portrays a balnce between day and night and thus between the sky and earth.

We can extend this idea further and relate it to the relationship between male and female, the Gods and the Godesses which must maintain a balance for harmony to exist. There is an assumption among many scholars that the Minoans were not Indo-Europeans but there is no positive evidence for this assertion. The mythological evidence would suggest that they were Indo-Europeans and the genetic evidence is beginning to suggest the Minoans DNA may be linked to Anatolia from where it has been speculated that the Indo-European languages originated and spread to Europe.[See Colin Renfrew`s Archaeology and Language: the Puzzle of Indo-European Origins.]

Cweorth, the Fyrfos in Motion


Cweorth, the 30th rune of the Northumbrian Futhorc and one of the so-called Grail Runes has a significant connection with the fyrfos, the swastika both graphically and conceptually.
Cweorth in effect forms one half of the fyrfos and whilst in motion clearly resembles this holy symbol. Motion is also the key to this rune for it signifies the swirling ascending flames of the ritual hearth fire, itself a microcosmic representation of the creative fire of the cosmos. We know that the ancient God Mundilfari, the father of both Sol[the sun] and Mani[the moon]used the fyrfos as a fire whisk to whip the elements of the cosmos into being. It is by fire that the universe was made manifest and it will be by fire that it will be destroyed.
Cweorth liberates the spirit from the captivity of matter through the flame of the funeral pyre, allowing the spirit of the godman to ascend upwards to the realms of Ljosalfheim and Asagard to be reunited with the racial folk-soul for either human rebirth or advancement in spiritual realms. Cweorth conceptually is the opposite of Nauthiz/Nyd/Not for it brings about transformation and purification. Its relationship with the Ogham Quert is indicative of its pre Celto-Germanic Aryan origin, a container of the one of the four Grail mysteries and treasures.
