The Black Sun[Die Schwarze Sonne] in Eddic Mythology and Fairytale

The Black Sun, known as Santur in the Irminist Weltanschauung of Karl Maria Willigut [1866-1946, also known as Jarl Widar, Karl Maria Weisthor and Lobesam] is the companion or binary star of our current active sun and should be regarded as a Counter-Sun, which was once active until the time of Homer, who referred to it as Hyperion[meaning `the High Wanderer`]. It then lost its struggle to the current sun and became dark, a Black Sun. This ongoing struggle between Santur and the active Sun which we may call Sol or Sunna has been going on for millions of years and at one time two suns would have been visible in the sky. Santur was the sun which was present at the time of the seeding of our Hyperborean Aryan Nordic race at the North Pole. [See The Arctic Home in the Vedas by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, 1903].

Consequently the energies of this Black Sun were responsible for the formation of the psyche of Aryan man. The rays from this sun may still be received today by the Aryan initiate through the practice of various spiritual disciplines such as Rune Yoga, meditation and auto-hypnosis. Wiligut refers to Santur in Charm 27[Halgarita Sprueche]:

"Sunur saga santur tvo
Sintyr peri fuir sprueh
Wiligoti haga tharn
Halga fuir santur tvo."

The preservation of our biological purity and the practice of Rune Yoga will help us to regain seemingly lost arcane knowledge. Nothing is ever truly lost; all can be recovered through trance and dream work providing we do not desecrate our divine blood lines. Aryan man alone is the true and original representation of the God-Man, the most authentic representation of man, apart from the beast man. Our enemies today would have us to forget our divine origins by engaging in the racial sin of miscegenation. This is the real hidden motive for the assault upon our Aryan homelands by the alien.

Two essential texts which should be on the bookshelves of all Aryosophists are Rune Might by Edred Thorsson and Nos, Book of the Resurrection by Miguel Serrano, recently republished by the 55 Club.

Our current active sun will soon become passive and dormant before it is eclipsed by Santur, which will again become active. At the time of its reactivation Aryan man will enjoy a new Golden Age and experience the next level of his upward evolution after our current temporary involution has ceased. This is prophesied in the Voluspa:

"The sun turns black, earth sinks into the sea,
the bright stars vanish from the sky;
steam rises up in the conflagration,
a high flame plays against heaven itself."[verse 57, Larrington translation]

Benjamin Thorpe`s translation is a little different and he numbers this verse as 56 in his version:

"The sun darkens, earth in ocean sinks, fall from heaven the bright stars, fire`s breath assails the all-nourishing tree, towering fire plays against heaven itself."

This verse tells the darkening of the current sun but this is only the prelude to the remergence of the current inactive Black Sun in our skies:

"Elf-disc will bear a daughter,
           before Fenrir assails her;

she shall ride, when the Powers die,

the girl on her mother`s paths." [Vathrudnirsmal 47, Larrington translation]

The Thorpe translation:

"A daughter shall Alfrodull bear, ere Fenrir shall have swallowed her. The maid shall ride, when the powers die, on her mother`s course."

Both versions name Fenrir, the slayer of Sol but we know from Girmnismal 39 that the wolf  which pursues Sol across the sky is called Skoll and the one which pursues Her brother Mani is Hati:

"Skoll a wolf is called who pursues the shining god
             to the protecting woods;

and another is Hati, he is Hrodvitnir`s son,

who chases the bright bride of heaven."[Larrington]

"Skoll the wolf is named, that the fair-haired goddess to the ocean chases; another Hati hight, he is Hrodvitnir`s son; he the bright maid of heaven shall precede."[Thorpe]

The two things that Fenrir and Skoll have in common is that they both are said to swallow a deity. This portrays in poetic language the eclipse of Sol by Santur. This antangonism between the two suns is also mirrored in the story of the contest between Loki and Utgard-Loki via his servant Loge in the Prose Edda book, Gylfaginning.

The myth of the swallowing of the sun by a wolf is also to be found in folklore, in particular in the European fairytale which Grimm titled Rotkaeppchen or Little Red Riding Hood in which Rotkaeppchen`s red clothing is symbolic of the sun.

The Claiomh Solais, the Sword of Nuada and Tiw

From the city of the city of Findias the Tuatha De Danann brought the Claiomh Solais, the shining Sword of Nuada, the Irish equivalent of the Germanic Tiw/Tyr. To the Welsh He was known as Nudd and to the Gauls, Nodens. Like Tiw He was one-handed, having lost a hand in a battle with the Firbolg at the First Battle of Magh Tuireadh. He was given a substitute silver hand and thereafter became known as Nuada Argetlamhor or Nuada of the Silver Hand. Initially like Tiw He was regarded as the highest of the Gods but was later replaced by Bres just as Tiw was replaced by Woden. Both Tiw and Nuada were Gods of the sword. No doubt the disfigurement is the primary reason or excuse for His replacement.

Nuada may be derived from the Proto-Indo-European *neu-d, meaning `to go fishing`. If this is the case then there may be a further link between Nuada and the Fisher King of the Parsifal legend. Just as Parsifal may represent a disguised form of Woden, the God of the spear, the Fisher King represents Tiw.
Saxnot, the divine ancestor of the Saxons was also a sword God and may represent a specifically Saxon form of Tiw. The Anglo-Saxon form of the name is Seaxneat. The Seax of course was the Saxon war-knife, thus the Saxons were the `people of the sword`.  He is referred to in the 8th century CE Old Saxon Baptismal Vow alongside Woden and Thunaer:

"End ec forsacho allum dioboles uuercum and uuordum, Thunaer ende Uuôden ende Saxnôte ende allum thêm unholdum thê hira genôtas sin."

Translated:  "I renounce all the deeds and words of the devil, Thunear, Wōden and Saxnōt, and all those fiends that are their companions."

He was thus clearly an important God to our ancestors to be ranked alongside both Woden and Thunaer. This is not surprising as Tiw is the Germanic version of the Proto-Indo-European sky father  *deiwos. He was originally the God before all Gods.

The granting of a magical sword is a common theme in both Germanic and Celtic mythology. One only has to think of two of the most well-known examples, the drawing of Arthur`s sword from the stone and Siegmund drawing the stone from the tree. Here we have an association between the Stone of Destiny and the  Sword of Nuada. Ultimately metal is drawn from rock. The stone hammer or axe of Thunar gives way to the iron Mjolnir.

The Tiwaz/Tir/Tyr rune is of course the rune of Tiw. It resembles however a spear not a sword. This is an indication that when Woden eclipsed Tiw He gained also Tiw`s original weapon and symbol of regality. In Irish mythology Lugh is also a late-comer and He also brandishes a magical spear as a sign of office. Eventually the spear became a symbol of Germanic kings and chieftains and was regarded with greater importance than the crown itself.

"Tyr is a one-handed god;
often has the smith to blow".[Old Norwegian Rune Poem, translation by Bellows]

" Tyr = god with one hand
and leavings of the wolf
and prince of temples."[Old Icelandic Rune Poem, Bellows]

The Old English Rune Poem, heavily xtianised and sanitised of the old Gods paints a different picture for this rune:

"Tir  is a (guiding) star; well does it keep faith
with princes; it is ever on its course
over the mists of night and never fails."[Bellows]

Unlike the other two poems it does draw attention to the polar nature of Tiw and despite the xtian scribe`s best efforts indirectly points to the Indo-European *deiwos deity!  Like the spear the sword is a symbol of masculine polarity whilst the stone and cauldron have a feminine polarity.

The Slea Luin-the Spear of Lugh, the Spear of Wodan, the Spear of Parsifal and the Rune Gar

From the city of Gorias the Tuatha De Danann brought the Slea Luin, the spear of Lugh. Lugh is one of several Celtic deities associated with Wodan. He was known as Lugh to the Irish, Lleu to the Welsh and Lugus to the Gauls. Like Wodan He was a father of heroes such as Cuchulainn. As a martial God Lugh held a spear as one of His weapons. The origins of His name are uncertain. One school of thought is that His name is derived from Proto-Indo-European *leuk,  `to shine` but this is contested. The other theory is that it is derived from *leug, `black`,` to break` or `to swear an oath`. The latter interpretation dovetails with one of the concepts of Wodan as sacred oaths were sworn on the point of His spear, Gungnir.
Another association with Wodan is reflected in the fact that both Gods were patrons of the arts and of high magic. When engaging in magic Lugh would hop on one leg with one eye closed which reminds us of the one-eyed Wodan.

Spears feature prominently in both Celtic and Germanic mythology. Cuchulainn like his father Lugh possessed a magical spear, the Gae Bolg which was given to him by his mentor Scathach who taught him the martial arts. She is very much like the Germanic shield maiden in this regard. Gae is derived from the Proto-Celtic *gaisos. We are reminded of the similarity between gae and the Old English gar which is derived from the Proto-Germanic *gaisaz.

"The word would appear to have originally been a Celto-Germanic term, in the same way the word runo is shared between them."[ALU. An Advanced Guide to Operative Runology, Edred Thorsson, 2012]

Gar is also the 33rd rune of the Northumbrian Futhorc and is the runic symbol for Woden. According to runologist Nigel Pennick[See Wyrdstaves of the North, 2010] Gar stand outside of the four runic aetts, being the final and central rune around which all the others circulate; it is the central pole, the axis. Gar is a combination of the Gyfu rune superimposed over the Ing rune, thus meaning the `gift of Ing`, Ing being the divine ancestor of the English folc. Furthermore a careful study of the rune will demonstrate that it contains all the other runes within itself, making this probably the most powerful of all runes in addition to its association with Woden. Gar is therefore self-sufficient and this is why it stands alone. Interestingly the Gar rune was used as a mother`s jewellery pendant and worn by wives of members of SS Standarte 72 based near Detmold.

Three magical cauldrons were required to soothe the hot spear of Lugh after its battle frenzy. The phallic symbolism of the immersion of the hot spear into a cauldron of liquid is obvious. We are immediately reminded of the association between the spear of Parsifal and the holy gral in its form as a chalice rather than as a stone. Although in Arthurian mythology we also have the symbol of the magical sword embedded in the stone. This picture reminds us of both the Claiomh Solais, the sword of Nuada and the Lia Fail, the Stone of Destiny. In the Volsunga Saga there is of course the related imagery of the sword placed into the tree by Wodan for the hero Sigmund to draw out as the appointed hero. In Wolfram von Eschenbach`s Parzival the connected symbols are the spear and the gral as a stone.

The spear is not just a martial weapon; it is a regal symbol, one originally associated with the great High God Wodan. Consequently Germanic kings who regarded themselves as the descendants of Wodan always carried a special spear as a sign of their kingship.

"When the Germanic peoples were first Christianized their kings and chieftains typically carried spears as symbols of their sovereign power-a power ultimately derived from their own `divine blood`. The divine blood stemmed from their god-like ancestors-called anseis by the Goths as we have seen."[The Mysteries of the Goths, Edred Thorsson, 2007, Limited First Edition]

With the enforced xtianisation of the Germanic peoples the spear of Wodan became the spear of Parsifal. It became the symbol of Parsifal`s divine authority as a god-king. Some draw a connection between this spear and the so-called `Spear of Longinus` or `Spear of Destiny`[see Trevor Ravenscroft`s The Spear of Destiny, 1973 and Mark of the Beast. The Continuing Story of the Spear of Destiny, 1990]

We know that the Spear of Longinus[if this is not a substitute!] dates back no earlier than the 8th to 10th centuries CE and is of Germanic manufacture[see Thorsson, page 106, 2007]

"As a symbol, the spear clearly has its origins in pre-Christian usage. Albert Brachmann, writing in Deutsches Archiv 6[1943], pp. 407-09, clearly outlines the development of the symbolism of the spear of Wodan into a spear of supposed Christian significance."

Edred then goes on to point out that the use of the spear as a symbol in the coronation of Langobardic kings was of greater significance than the reception of the crown. Indeed he believes that the Spear of Longinus was most likely of Langobardic manufacture. Readers may recall that Wodan placed a special blessing upon the Langobards, formerly called the Winnilli after being tricked by His wife Frijjo. It is He who gave them their name, Langobards because of their long beards. The Langobards called Him Godan.

The Coire Anseasc, the Gral and the Rune Calc

From the city of Murias the Tuatha De Danann brought the Coire Anseasc, the Cauldron of the Dagda, the Irish All-Father. It is said that:

"no company ever went away from it unsatisfied."[The Lebor Feasa Runda, 2008, Steven L. Akins]

This reminds me of what is said about the Holy Gral that it was able to produce precious food for the knights who guarded it. The Gral is portrayed as a sacred stone in Wolfram von Eschenbach`s Parzival but it is also portrayed as a cup in other mediaeval literature. I believe that these two different concepts, the stone and the cup which are both perceived as being the Gral are in fact two different objects that have become confused into one single concept. The Anglo-Saxon Futhorc`s  Gral Runes, Calc, Stan and Gar reflect both the stone and the cup version of the Gral as do the Four Hallows of the Tuatha De Danann, the stone, spear, sword and the cauldron. The confusion was brought about by the attempted xtianisation of what in fact are Indo-European concepts.

Cauldrons are very common in Celtic and Germanic mythology and usually have special life enhancing or life endowing powers attributed to them. A cauldron features in Hymiskvida where Thor and Tyr set off on an adventure to obtain a huge cauldron from the giant Hymir for the brewing of mead for a feast of the Gods, to be hosted by Aegir.

There is of course the famous Gundestrup Cauldron discovered in 1891 in a Danish peat bog. It is made of silver and is dated to have been made sometime between 200BCE and 300CE. Its decoration is conjectured to be either Celtic or Thracian symbolism. This may originally have belonged to a Celtic tribe living south of the River Elbe and subsequently looted by the Cimbri and taken to Denmark. The cauldron may in fact be a combined cultural product of Celts, Teutons and other Indo-European tribes. The imagery on one of the plates suggests that a God is reviving a warrior by immersing him into a cauldron.

The life giving, life enhancing and nourishing powers of Parzival`s Gral clearly are an echo of ancient Germanic and Celtic religious belief and have nothing to do with the xtian religion. What xtianity could not destroy in Northern Europe it plagiarised-a common trait of Abrahamic religions.

"Some may be confused to some extent by what seems to be the Christian symbolism of the Grail-however, the astounding fact is that there was originally nothing Christian about it."[ALU An Advanced Guide to Operative Runology, Edred Thorsson, 2012]

The Gral as a cup or chalice is figured in the Calc rune. Thorsson discusses in ALU how the heathen Germanic sacred drinking vessel of the horn was xtianised into a cup or chalice. Horns from the aurochs were used for both sacred and profane drinking. The golden horns of Gallehus are a glorious and typical example of the sacred nature of the drinking horn.

"Horns were even used in the early Germanic church in place of the Romano-Christian chalice-a practice outlawed by the church."[ALU]

The word calc apparently is a borrowing from Latin but in Old Norse it is known as kalkr, `chalice` which can also be used in a heathen context. So the word calc and the obvious horn shape of the rune stave make it very clear what it is supposed to represent.

Nigel Pennick in Wyrdstaves of the North [2010] states:

"This rune has the literal meaning of a ritual container or an offering cup, such as the maple-wood Wassail bowl used in the rites of Yuletide, and the spiritual vessels in Celtic and Christian mythology, such as the Cauldron of Wisdom and the Holy Grail."

He believes that the rune can be used magically to contact the dead. If one considers also how it resembles a tree with three roots and how these go down into the underworld it certainly does have this connotation. We should also remember how Woden deposited His eye in Mimir`s well in order to acquire wisdom and the well could also be thought of as a cauldron of inspiration.

It is interesting to note that a special golden cauldron resembling the Gundestrup Cauldron was made for the SS and was possibly used in rites carried out at Schloss Wewelsburg. This was later deposited in the Chiemsee in Bavarian in the closing days of WWII and recovered by divers in 2001.

The Lia Fail, the Gral and the Rune Stan

This article is dedicated to the discussion and exploration of the symbolism of the Lia Fail, the Stone of Destiny. One of the four Hallows of the Tuatha De Danann it has its origins in the mysterious city of  Falias, one of the four cities of the Tuatha in their original homeland of Tir na nOg.

Scholars have attempted to locate the stone geographically and historically. I am not sure that this is a wise thing to do as this object has a supernatural origin and attempts to locate it are in my view futile. However it is considered by some that the Coronation Stone at the hill of Tara, the place where Irish High Kings were crowned is its current location. Others say that the Stone of Scone is the actual Lia Fail. The return of the Stone of Scone to Scotland in 2008 should be regarded as a publicity stunt for it is widely held that this stone is a fake and if genuine it certainly is not the property of the Scottish people but the Irish for it has its origins in Ireland. My belief is that the one located now in Tara is the real historical artifact but we must be careful in not labelling it as the Lia Fail as this is a supernatural object which in reality cannot and should not be located in time and space. In this sense it may be compared to the Gral. Knights spent their entire lives and fortunes in hunting down this relic but to no avail. This was the case even during the Third Reich when Otto Rahn as a member of the SS Ahnenerbe was charged with finding this object by Heinrich Himmler.

The Lia Fail is one aspect of the Gral. The Cauldron of the Dagda is another aspect. They became in effect two versions of the same thing due to confusion down the centuries. It is significant that Wolfram von Eschenbach in his 13th century work Parzival portrays the Gral as a stone.

"A warlike company lives there, I will tell you how they are nourished. They live from a Stone  whose essence is most pure, If you have never heard of it I shall name it for you here. It is called `Lapsit exillis`. By virtue of this Stone the Phoenix is burned to ashes, in which he is reborn."[Parzival, Wolfram von Eschenbach, translated by A.T. Hatto]

The best interpretation of  Lapsit exillis is `stone of exile`. This refers to a stone that Lucifer carried with Him on his exile from heaven when He rebelled against the evil demiurge Jehovah. We know that the stone contains an inscription:

"As to those who are appointed to the Gral, hear how they are made known. Under the top edge of the Stone an Inscription announces the name and lineage of the one summoned to make the glad journey."[Parzival]

According to George A. Keryx in his outstanding Holy Grail. Ancient Pagan Apocrypha[1998] the Gral consists of 12 stone tablets inscribed with rune like characters.

Otto Rahn in Lucifer`s Court[1937] describes the Gral as a "stone of light"[pages 23 and 58]  The Gral is believed by Rahn to have come into possession of the Goths after they stole it from the Romans.

"The Ostrogoths reigned for a relatively short time. Were they the `rich royal family` mentioned in Der Wartburgkrieg? The name of the royal Gothic dynasty was Amaler, and their ancestors were said to be `deities` known as Ansis or Asen, the lords of the Gothic treasure, which included the Gral."

In Crusade Against the Grail[1934] Rahn states:

"The Grail in turn fell to the earthly world when Lucifer was expelled from God`s throne."[Page 112].

It should be noted by anyone reading the English translations of Rahn`s two books that he appears to move from a traditional xtian view of regarding Lucifer as an evil entity in his first book Crusade Against the Grail  to regarding Him as an essentially good and Aryan deity in Lucifer`s Court. The only rational reason for this in my view is that between the publication of these two works Rahn may have undergone a spiritual awakening and initiation. This change in perspective was not commented on by his biographer Nigel Graddon in Otto Rahn and the Quest for the Grail. An interesting example of this change is to be noted on page 25 of Lucifer`s Court:

"I prefer to believe that Satan`s, not Lucifer`s, armies stood before the walls of Montsegur to steal the Grail, which had fallen from the Light Bringer, from Lucifer`s crown, and was kept by the pure ones."[My emphasis]
So by the time of the publication of his second work in 1937 Rahn had come to the rightful conclusion that Jehovah is in fact Satan and that Satan was a different entity from Lucifer.

In Woden`s Folk we regard the last three Anglo-Saxon runes as being grail runes. These are Calc, Stan and Gar. This interpretation appears to be shared by Edred Thorsson:

"It seems that the `magical formula` calc-stan-gar actually represents an esoteric understanding of the Grail mythos which was well-developed in the Germanic world. Although Wolfram refers to southern sources from Moorish Spain, no hard evidence for this understanding has actually come from there. So we are left with Wolfram`s lengthy discourses in Parzival as well as other discussions in medieval German works,eg the Wartburgkrieg of Heinrich von Ofterdingen, in which the Grail is also identified with a stone that fell from Lucifer`s crown, and the Old English runic tradition, as sources for the chalice-stone-spear complex."[Alu An Advanced Guide to Operative Runology, 2012]

Thorsson speculates that the "ultimate origin" of this "symbolic complex" is to be found in the settlement of North Iranian Alans in northern England and Southern Scotland during the Roman occupation of Britain.
If this is so then he argues that the Calc rune symbolises priestcraft, Stan the earth and Gar war.
He also refers to Second Battle of Mag Tured in which we are introduced to the four Hallows.
The 32nd rune, Stan is derived from Proto-Germanic *stainaz meaning of course `stone`. We are reminded not only of the link with the Lia Fail but also of the connection with the megalithic culture when stones were used as altars by the Germanic and Celtic peoples.

Troy Southgate in his essay The Symbolic & Practical Significance of the Centre: A Wodenist Perspective, published in Gwendolyn Toynton`s Northern Traditions[2011] refers also to Cweorth as being a Gral rune. I have identified additional runes that may have a Gral connection which I will discuss in future related studies.

In Arthurian lore of course we get the theme of the extraction of Excalibur from a stone. It is from stone of course, a mineral that we derive iron and thus steel. Thus we have a link here with the Sword of Nuada, one of the other four hallows. If we reflect upon the Gar rune we have of course a bind rune of Ing in its Common Germanic form and Gyfu, the gift of Ing. The centre of Gar also resembles a stone through which two spears are passed.

The Stone of Tara and also the Stone of Scone were both associated with the coronation of Irish and Scottish kings. It has been speculated by Leon E. Stover in both Stonehenge: The Indo-European Heritage/Stonehenge and the Origins of Western Culture, 1978/1979  and Stonehenge City: A Reconstruction, 2003 that Stonehenge was used as a place of coronation and ceremony by Indo-European High Kings of Britain. This idea may actually have been borrowed from Patrick Crampton who published Stonehenge of the Kings in 1967

"I see it as the fit setting for a king to perform his practical and magical ceremonial functions." [Crampton]

Stone of course represents permamence and it is interesting that even with the introduction of bronze the Indo-European kings of Stonehenge still carried the original stone battle axe as a mace of royal office.

The Hyperborean Origins of the Four Hallows

I have in the past written extensively on all three of my blogs about the connection between the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc and the four Hallows or treasures of the Tuatha De Danann. See in particular The Four Sacred Treasures of the Tuatha De Danann[31/12/09] and The Graal Runes of the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc[10/2/13, Celto-Germanic Culture, Myth and History blog.]

The Tuatha De Danann as Miguel Serrano points out in Nos. Book of the Resurrection[recently republished by the 55 Club]:

"Tuatha De Danann: In Irish tradition, they are the Aesir of Norse legend, the divine ancestors who descended from the stars, the Hyperboreans."

Anyone who has made a comparative study of Germanic and Celtic mythologies will not need me to tell them of the close parallels between the families of the Tuatha De Danann and the Aesir-Vanir, not only in function[Lugh-Woden, Nuada-Tiw] but also in name [Taranis-Thunar (Thunder) ]. This goes beyond a shared Indo-European legacy but a more specific Celto-Germanic one. It is significant that even the DNA of the Celtic and Germanic peoples tends to be dominated by the R1b Y chromosone haplotype, unlike the eastern Europeans Aryans, the Slavs and Balts who tend to be of the R1a type, suggestive of an ancient branching off from the R1 Ur-chromosone. This is in my opinion indicative of a different series of migrations from our original ancient Thulean Ur-Heimat. Even the type of Indo-European languages we speak[Germanic, Celtic, Greek, Tocharian and Italic-centum languages, whilst Baltic, Slavic, Armenian, Iranian and Indian- satem languages is suggestive of this. The centum-satem division is thus reflected in the R1b-R1a division.

This makes it sheer nonsense in trying to differentiate Germanic from Celtic DNA-much to the chagrin of both Celtic and Germanic purists and deniers of the Aryan concept!

It is through the study of the various northern European Indo-European mythologies-Germanic, Celtic, Baltic and Slavic that I hope to throw some light upon our shared Aryan past, something which should be of importance to all folkish people.Comparative mythology, linguistics and genetics are the tools in our arsenal.

It is particularly interesting that the four Hallows or treasures; the Spear of Lugh, the Sword of Nuada, the Stone of Destiny and the Cauldron of the Dagda are said to have arrived in Ireland/Eire [land of the Arya] from the Tuatha`s[Teutons`?] Ur-Heimat of Tir nan`Og which according to Stevin L. Akins in his The Lebor Feasa Runda, "disappeared into the depths of the ocean in the space of a single day and night when the waves of the sea overtook it..." One is reminded of the story of the destruction of Atlantis in Plato`s Timaeus and Critias.

It is my intention to complete a detailed study of the four Hallows in conjunction with the Anglo-Saxon runes, dedicating an entire article to each Hallow, something which has not yet been attempted.

The Eagle, Swastika and Oakleaves, Potent Aryo-Germanic Symbols

The Third Reich was the product of carefully presented Aryan symbolism which created a reaction in the Collective Unconscious or the Blood Memory of the German Folk. The runes and swastika were ubiquitous.
As I have said before one symbol is worth 1,000 words and this was certainly the case in Germany of the 1930s. In addition to runic symbols the following were preeminent in the Third Reich:

.The swastika.

.The eagle.

.The Aryan salute.

The Third Reich was not the only racial state in history if one takes into consideration the examples of Sparta and India but it could be argued that it was the only consciously racial state in European history. One could of course cite the example of Aryan India being consciously racial but this falls outside of the geographical scope of this article which is Europe.

Because Germany was a racial state it used racial, not merely political symbols. Political symbols do not speak to the archaic Blood Memory as racial symbols do. The communication between the symbol and the Blood Memory is of course unconscious. This is why and how millions of politically apathetic and probably non-National Socialists and indeed even anti-National Socialists were politically energised into being good and loyal National Socialists. They were not consciously National Socialist and little understand its purpose let alone its esoteric and religious nature.

"Do you understand now the profound significance of our National Socialist movement? Whoever sees in National Socialism nothing but a political movement does not know much about it....It is even higher than a religion: it is the will to create mankind anew."[Adolf Hitler]

What countless speeches and the publication of Mein Kampf failed to achieve arcane symbols accomplished and this was of course known to the hierarchy of the National Socialist movement. By `hierarchy` I am not referring to the visible leadership but the behind the scenes influences of the invisible hierarchy.

Let us consider the two symbols of the swastika and the eagle combined, often but not always with oak leaves. The swastika as my readers will be aware is an ancient Germanic and an ancient Aryan symbol. It is to be found amongst all Aryan peoples and those parts of the earth where the Aryan has had a cultural influence. Those of little knowledge would assert that it is purely an `eastern` symbol and has its origins in the east. The truth of the matter is the oldest known swastika[pictured above] found to date is from Mezin in the Ukraine, one of the theoretical original homelands of the Aryans. This swastika dates to around 10,000BCE and is carved on mammoth ivory.

The swastika is both a solar and a polar symbol. Indeed its polar symbolism is more ancient than the solar. When the Aryans resided as one people around the Arctic[Arctic] the revolution of the Pole star would have implanted the image of the swastika into their blood memory and they took this polar symbol whereever they went in their separate migrations. Forgetting its original polar nature they substituted it for a solar one.

The swastika or fylfot as it is known in Germanic culture is reckoned by many scholars to be a symbol of the hammer of Thunor:

"The Anglo-Saxons worshipped the thunder god under the name of Thunor. Memories survive here and there, like the title of High Thunderer, used for the Christian God in a tenth-century charter of Edward the Elder. We have many instances of the swastika symbol from Anglo-Saxon graves of the pagan period, and it is particularly prominent on cremation urns from the cemeteries of East Anglia.[Gods and Myths of Northern Europe, H.R. Ellis-Davidson, 1964]

"Both the swastika and the hammer symbol are found on stones bearing early runic inscriptions in Norway and Sweden, and some of these call on Thor to protect the memorial and the place of burial.[1964]

"Yet we know the extent of his worship  in the north, and the mark of the swastika or hammer on cremation urns and memorial stones suggests that he afforded his protection to his worshippers in the realm of death as in life." [1964]

Likewise the eagle has also a connection with Indo-European Thunder Gods.

"The Eagle is the symbol of royalty, power, authority, victory. Among the Greeks it symbolised supreme spiritual energy. Zeus is attended by an eagle."[Ancient Pagan Symbols, Elisabeth Goldsmith, 1929]

The Armanists were quick to realise this connection and they related the eagle to the Ar rune:

"The `ar`, the urfyr[primal fire, god], the `sun`, the `light` will destroy spiritual as well as physical darkness, doubt, and uncertainty. In the sign of the Ar the Aryans-the sons of the sun-founded their law[Rita], the primal law of the Aryans, of which the earn, or eagle[Aar], is the hieroglyph."[Secret of the Runes, Guido von List]

"Our Order is a Germanic Order, loyalty is also Germanic. Our God is Walvater, his rune is the Ar rune. An the trinity: Wotan, Wili, We is the unity of the trinity. The Ar-rune signifies Aryan, primal fire, the sun and the eagle. And the eagle is the symbol of the Aryans."[Rudolf von Sebottendorff].

"The a-Rune, Ar, Aar[eagle], the Eagle of the Sun, nobleman, Aryan, Arman, the Son of the Sun, Aar-fire=primal fire, the Son of God. Harmony=Ar-mony. Ar=acre[field]. Ar-Arahari, the spiritual Sun;Arimann, the Sun-Man, the Aryan. The Ar-Rune is also the rune of the healer, the physician[Arzt]. Numerical value 10."[Siegfried Adolf Kummer]

"AR is the Sun Rune: Ar-aar=eagle, Aryan, nobleman, Arr=master, H-ar=the High One, Har-istos=the Highest one. Or, Ar in all languages is still Sun and gold, the golden heir of the gold-hair-Sun, the Aryan."[Rudolf John Gorsleben]

The combination of the swastika with the eagle is thus a highly potent combination of two ancient Aryan symbols which both have a connection to the Indo-European Thunder/Sky/Storm deity which we know as *Perkunos in Proto-Indo-European and as *Thunaraz in Proto-Germanic. The eagle has also been a symbol of Germany for over 1100 years. The Third Reich often also combined the eagle and swastika with oak leaves, another ancient German symbol and also connected with Thunor. The oak is Germany`s national tree and the oak was sacred to Thunor:

"The Aryans of Europe worshipped the Oak which was sacred to the gods of fertility and thunder. In Greece and Italy Zeus and Jupiter were oak-gods."[Goldsmith]

The Use of Music in Rituals-Donner Swings His Hammer

For a while now I have considered introducing music into my Wodenist rites. Some Wodenists/Wotanists/Odinists already do this and  if the music is chosen carefully it can add to the feelings of awe and reverence as we enter into the presence of the Gods.

Suitable music would include extracts from Wagner`s Der Ring des Nibelungen. One of the highlights of Das Rheingold and Der Ring generally is the latter part of Scene 4. The section of music in particular that I have in mind is Schwueles Geduenst:

"Schueles Geduenst
          schwebt in der Luft;
          laestig ist mir
         der truebe Druck:
         das bleiche Gewoelk
         samml` ich zu blitzendem Wetter;
des fegt den Himmel mir hell.

          "A sultry haze
           soars in the air;
           burdened I am
           by its cloudy weight

           the leaden clouds
           I`ll collect into a raging storm;
which will sweep the heavens clear.
           [Wotan`s Krieger`s translation]

Donner[Thunor/Thor/Donar] then climbs a rock promontory overlooking the valley and then He swings His hammer, gathering the mists to him.

"He da! He da! Hedo!
           Zu mir, du Gedueft!
           ihr Duenste, zu mir!
           Donner, der Herr,
           ruft euch zu Heer.

"He da! He da! Hedo!
           To me, you haze!
           you mists, to me!
           Donner, the Lord,
calls you to be his army.
           [Wotans Krieger`s translation]

Donner then swings His hammer.

"Auf des Hammers Schwung
           schwebet herbei:
           dunstig Gedaempf!
           Schwebend Gedueft!
           Donner, der Herr,
           ruft euch zu Heer!
           He da! He da! Hedo!

"On the swing of the hammer
           soar here:
           misty vapour clouds!
           Soaring haze!
           Donner, the Lord,
calls you to be his army!
           He da! He da! Hedo!"
           [Wotans Krieger`s translation]

Following this Donner disappears, completely enveloped in the thundercloud. His hammer then strikes the rock. Flashes of lightning appear, followed by the crashing sound of thunder.

The astute reader will observe Wagner`s nice play on words, rhyming [Donner der] Herr[lord] with Heer[army]. This is a common feature in Wagner`s work.

The most appropriate stage to introduce this music would be before the commencement of the Hammer Rite. In effect what we would then be doing is performing a rite already accomplished in the heavens by Thunor: "as above, so below." This should then set the right spiritual atmosphere for what will follow.

The best version of this highlight-with words is probably that of Bernard Haitink and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, featuring Andreas Schmidt as Donner. His vocals are some of the deepest I have heard for this role and the orchestral effects are nicely bombastic which is how this piece should be done!

Hypnotism, a Recovered Lost Aryan Mantic Art

As I have mentioned before on this blog and on my Die Armanenschaft der Ario-Germanen blog our task after awakening is to become masters of our Self. Our purpose in becoming masters of our Self is to equip us with the right state of awareness and knowledge in order that we can then become masters of others. This is what is meant by the term Herrenvolk. Not all who share our genetics are equipped to master others or even themselves. The vast majority of people, including those of our own biological race are sheep that require a shepherd, someone who has the capacity to tell them what to do and what to think. Before some of you raise an eyebrow at this statement give some thought as to the current situation in the world! In this age of mass media and mass surveillance by government agencies and corporations the individual is made to believe that he has the capacity to think freely but this is the last thing that is allowed to him by the chosen. Only the illusion of freewill is granted by Klingsor. The governing elite, the chosen, use the media and the idiotbox called television to influence the masses and they use governments who are financially manipulated by the chosen to enforce their will through laws.

What I am suggesting is that we use the same strategy. The masses are and always have been the cannon fodder of the powerful and we have to recognise that nothing will change this-and neither should it. Real power is exercised unseen and in secret.

One tool that can be used as a means of Self-empowerment and as a means of influence over others is hypnotism. This is something I studied a few years ago and one of the messages that was repeated throughout the course is that we cannot hypnotise others against their will. This is false. Now much of the training regarding hypnotism is part of training given in hypnotherapy but the skills that are taught are valid for all types of hypnotic work.

Hypnotic inductions are carried out usually by inducing a state of relaxation and the use of imagery, creating a state of mind where the inductee is open to the planting of a suggestion in their unconscious mind. Most trainers will tell you that the conscious mind acts as the gatekeeper to the unconscious and thus the gatekeeper has to be bypassed by being put to sleep. In the relaxed state the inductee is less aware of his environment and the only external stimuli comes from the hypnotist and thus they are more prone to suggestion. To a large extent this is true but people can enter a light trance like state without the intervention of a hypnotist. Examples include falling asleep on the bus, falling asleep driving or during a boring lesson or meeting. A state of relaxation can be induced without the intervention of a hypnotist or without the hypnotist formerly inducing a trance like state. To a great extent this is dependent upon  the susceptibility of the inductee. Some people cannot be hypnotised against their will, that is true but many can. It happens in all sorts of ways but these days in the age of mass communication with television and the internet it is much easier.

If anyone follows the workings of stage and television hypnotists you will observe that they are highly selective in terms of who they choose to hypnotise because they realise that some have a weaker will than others and can be more easily dominated. This is why they carry out suggestibility exercises first upon their audience, hence achieving seemingly remarkable results!

In future articles I intend to explore the methods and tools that my readers can use to achieve their purpose. Please remember that hypnotism is an ancient Aryan Thulean mantic art and like all of our recovered knowledge should be used. Let us reclaim these tools to achieve the Aryan Imperium that we desire!

Hypnotism can be used for both positive and negative purposes but it is effective. To understand how we can use these skills one only has to watch Leni Riefenstahl`s Triumph des Willens. Adolf Hitler demonstrated Himself to be a master of this mantic art-right up to the very end.

Isa, the Key to the Awakened Self of the Arya

In the practice of Rune Yoga the it is imperative that the Isa/Is/Iss Rune is mastered first for it is the key to all the other Runes. If mastered correctly it will unlock the mysteries and powers of the other Runes, regardless of which Futhark or Futhorc you choose to work with.

This is particularly emphasised in Siegfried Adolf Kummer`s Heilige Runenmacht, referred to in Edred Thorsson`s Rune Might, which I highly recommend. When first practicing rune yoga it is recommended that you spend 14 consecutive days mastering this rather simple posture whilst drawing down power from above and up from below whilst singing the iiiiisssss or iiiiiiii mantra. One should face north and the pitch of the mantra should rise from a low one to a high one when drawing energy upwards and from a high one to a low one when drawing energy downwards..

The continuing practice of both the asana[runic form] and the mantra[runic sound] along with visualisation of the rune and the channeling of energy at the same time is essential. The use of correct breathing techniques must be employed. The system I use involves the inhalation of oxygen for a span of 5 seconds, followed by the holding of the breath for 3 seconds, followed by exhalation of breath for 5 seconds and then the further holding of breath for 3 seconds. On inhalation visualise the drawing down and upwards of energy along the length of the body, allowing the energy to meet and then circulate in  the Solar Plexus[the Manipura Chakra], associated with the Swastika and the dynamic energy centre of the body.

One must learn to bring together correct breathing techniques, the asana rune form, the rune mantra and visualisation of the rune and movement of energy into a single act or discipline for the magic to be effective.
I also try to concentrate on the basic revealed meanings of the rune at the same time so making concentration a fifth aspect to the practice. So to summarise rune yoga involves the following 5 techniques:

.Correct breathing.

.Runic asana form.

.Runic mantra.

The mastery and continuing regular practice of Isa will confer the benefits of strengthening the ego and consciousness of the self, leading to self-mastery. It brings clarity and focus. There is an etymological and conceptual link with iron. Modern English iron, Old English isaern, Old Saxon isarn, Middle Dutch iser, Old High German isarn and Modern German Eisen all derive from the Proto-Germanic *isarnan which in turn leads back to Proto-Indo-European *isero[holy, powerful] and *eis[strong]. Both iron and ice are cold, strong and unyielding but both can melt under the power of fire. Before we can attempt to master others we must first learn to master our-self.

According to Edred Thorsson in Futhark Isa is the ice which flows forth from the north-Niflheim. It is antimatter and when combined with the energy which flows from the south-Muspellheim it leads to the formation of matter-Midgard.

Isa represents absolute stillness, lack of vibration and concentrated absolute contraction.[See Thorsson`s Runelore.] Isa is the I-the unique Self which as Arya we must awaken and develop. The practice of this runic asana and mantra is the building block of this process.

Thor`s Hammer Depicted as an Icelandic Fylfot

The Swastika or Fylfot as we call this symbol in the Germanic North is also known as Thor`s Hammer and a very stylised depiction of this sacred symbol was used in Iceland for magical purposes.
The symbol was pictured on page 301 in Sabine Baring-Gould`s Iceland. Its Scenes and Sagas[1863] along with other Galdr Staves, special magical symbols, often referred to as runes but technically they are not. They were used purely for magical purposes and as far as I am aware their presence has not been detected outside of Iceland. An example of this sign used as a spell is contained in the Huld Manuscript which was added as an appendix to The Galdrabok. An Icelandic Book of Magic by Stephen Edred Flowers, Ph.D[aka Edred Thorsson]. The Thor`s Hammer/Fylfot is shown superimposed over the side profile of a man`s head.
Above the image the manuscript states:

"This sign is used by magicians to call out thieves and other witcheries."

In the notes section of the book Dr Flowers states:

"This is a most unusual Thors hammer. It may be a depiction of how the hammer is supposed to work."
Dr Flowers emphasises the importance of Thor`s role in Icelandic magic:

"Perhaps the second most actively represented of the old gods is Thor. This is not surprising either, since he seems to have been the most popular god in pagan Iceland. In the Galdrabok his actual name is not represented outside the litanies of divine and demonic names in spells 43, 45 and 46. However, there is other evidence to show that Thor`s role in Icelandic magic was significant through a galdrastafur called thorshamar [Thor`s hammer]. The name of this sign was attached to several forms over a long history. At one time it was attached to the solar wheel, or swastika, and is recorded in the folklore material of Jon Arnason [here the symbol is shown-my edit], which seems reminiscent of the old solar wheel.[Flowers]

It may be significant that the upper arm of this Thor`s Hammer resembles specifically the hammer form whilst the rest takes more of the Fylfot shape.

Woden and the Wolf Hammer

I have discussed the Icelandic Wolf Hammer in previous articles on my Die Armanenschaft der Ario-Germanen blog:

The Icelandic Wolf Hammer[27/5/12]
Further Reflections on the Icelandic Wolf`s Hammer[10/3/13]
Thor`s Hammer and the Indo-European Tarot[[7/4/13]

Recently I began to reflect on the significance of the beast`s head at the top of the hammer. Some consider this to be a dragon, others a wolf. If one accepts this to be a wolf then there is a clear association with Woden as the God of the Hanged who was accompanied by His wolves, Freki and Geri. The wolf along with the raven is clearly associated with this God. The wolfhead of the hammer reminds us that we are at the moment as followers of Woden to be regarded as wolfheads.

The shape of the Wolf Hammer reminds us that Woden hung Himself upon the world tree for 9 nights in order to acquire the mysteries of the runes. It is generally considered that He hung upside down:

"I know that I hung on a windy tree nine long nights, wounded with a spear, dedicated to Odin, myself to myself, on that tree of which no man knows from where its roots run."No bread did they give me nor a drink from a horn, downwards I peered; I took up the runes, screaming I took them, then I fell back from there."[Havamal, Poetic Edda]

The shape of the hammer is not entirely unique as the Danish Laby hammer has a similar apparent inverted
cross form; almost T-shaped. The Wolf Hammer resembles very closely the form of the Judge`s gavel and one could consider it the most hammer like of hammers for most other Thors Hammers resemble more the axe which it took its form from. The arms of the Wolf Hammer are rounded as one would expect in this type of hammer. We should remember that the All-Thing was dedicated to Thunor and so Thunor has this function of presiding-like Tiw and the Frisian Fosite over legal proceedings.

The statue of Thor from Eyraland is more or less contemporary with the Wolf Hammer and the shape of the hammer which Thor is grasping in both hands is practically the same as the Wolf Hammer. Clearly Thor would not be grasping a xtian cross so this adds further weight to the heathen nature of the Wold Hammer.

The Ar Rune is the Sign of the Aryan

The Arya is the aspiring Sun Initiate, a Son of the Sun. His Rune is the Ar Rune:

"The `ar`, the urfyr[primal fire, god], the `sun`, the `light` will destroy spiritual as well as physical darkness, doubt, and uncertainty. In the sign of the Ar the Aryans-the sons of the sun-founded their law[Rita], the primal law of the Aryans, of which the earn, or eagle[Aar], is the hieroglyph."[Secret of the Runes, Guido von List].

This Rune deserves special attention by the Sonnenmensch for it provides significant clues to his or her identity, origin and life task in the current incarnation on Midgarth. The eagle of course is associated with the supreme sky God in Indo-European mythology.

"The Eagle is the symbol of royalty, power, authority, victory. Among the Greeks it symbolised supreme spiritual energy. Zeus is attended by an eagle."[Ancient Pagan Symbols, Elisabeth Goldsmith]

The Eagle, the Aryan of the birds of prey has a long association with the Aryan peoples and in particular with the Germanic peoples. The symbol of the eagle along with the Swastika was everywhere to be seen in the Third Reich-and for good reason. The National Socialists realised that one symbol is of greater value than 1,000 written or spoken words.

Guido von List likened the eagle to the legendary phoenix which had the ability to sacrifice itself in order to renew itself. Please reread and meditate on that which I have just written for it holds the key to our renewal collectively as a race and our fulfillment of the mission that Walvater Woden has allotted to us.

"It sacrifices itself, as it consecrates itself in a flaming death, in order to be reborn. For this reason it was called the `fanisk` and later `phoenix`. Therefore it is read as a symbolic hieroglyph when an eagle is laid on the funeral pyre of a celebrated hero to indicate that the dead hero rejuvenatingly prepares himself in death for rebirth in order to strive for a still more glorious future life in human form in spite of all the restrictions of the powers of darkness-all of which crumble before the `ar:` `Respect the primal fire!"[Secret of the Runes]
"In order to depict the eagle`s capacity for self-immolation by fire, it is coloured red. From today on our symbol is the red eagle, which warns us that we must die in order to live."[Rudolf von Sebottendorf]

The Ar Rune must become the symbol of the awakened and militant Aryan man or woman. It should become a sign, almost a secret one which is known only to ourselves and those we have sworn sacred oaths of brotherhood with. At the same time, magically charged it will become as a weapon to be used against those who oppose us.

Frey, the Ar-God

This article should be read in conjunction with previous ones on a similar theme such as `Ar` as a Prefix in Aryan God/Goddess Names[4/8/12] and Aryanman/Airyaman/Ariomanus/Eremon/Irmin-the Divine Concept of Aryanness[17/8/12].
I have identified further evidence of the Aryan connection specifically in the Norse Sagas, Eddas and Rune Poems that repeats this same recurring theme.
The 10th Rune of the Younger Futhark and the Armanen Futhork is called Ar. This is cognate with the Elder/Common Germanic Futhark Jera which appears as the 12 Rune in that row. The Anglo-Saxon equivalent is Ger. It should be noted that the form of the Rune stave is different in all four Rune rows. The Younger and Armanen Runes show the closest affinity in form and Rune name. It should be born in mind that the Armanen is not an historical Rune row unlike the other three of course and it is historical rather than esoteric evidence that we are primarily but not exclusively examining here.
Ar and its Old English[Anglo-Saxon] equivalent of Ger are broadly cognate with the modern English `year` but it has the additional sense of meaning a fruitful year in relation to the harvest which our ancestors were deeply dependent upon. The term is very ancient and predates the Germanic, being traced right back to the Proto-Indo-European[PIE] *yer.

"[Ar] is the profit of all men and a good summer and a ripened field".[Icelandic Rune Poem].
"[Ar] is the profit of men; I say that Frothi was generous."[Norwegian Rune Poem].
"[Ger] is the hope of men, when god lets, holy king of heaven, the Earth give her bright fruits to the nobles and the needy."[Old English Rune Poem].

My readers must be aware that the Old English Rune Poem is heavily xtianised, much more so than the Icelandic and Norwegian so it must always be read in conjunction with the more archaic material. However it does give more detailed information and there are of course additional Runes contained within it so it is immensely valuable to us. The Abecedarium Nordmannicum also refers to this rune as `Ar`.

The prefix `Ar` readers will recall from the earlier articles has many different values and interpretations but they are all linked to the Aryan concept. Professor L. Austine Waddell in A Sumer Aryan Dictionary[1927] relates this prefix to the plough and the earth;  hence its association with agriculture.

Guido von List directly linked the Aryan concept with this Rune:

"ar, sun, primal fire, ar-yans, nobles, etc."
"The `ar`, the `urfyr`[primal fire, god], the `sun`, the `light` will destroy spiritual as well as physical darkness, doubt, and uncertainty. In the sign of the Ar the Aryans-the sons of the sun-founded their law[Rita], the primal law of the Aryans, of which the earn, or eagle[Aar], is the hieroglyph."[The Secret of the Runes].

In Skaldskaparmal 75 Snorri Sturluson refers to the Vana God Frey as the `arguth`[ar-god]. He is the Aryan God!No wonder that this God was so well loved and honoured as the people`s very existence was dependent upon him. He was the God of the people, of the Arya, the God of the plough, the Ar.

Thurisaz-the Axe Rune of Thunor

What I am intending to do in this article is to reconsider the Thurisaz/Thorn/Thurs Rune conceptually.
According to Edred Thorsson in his Futhark. A Handbook of Rune Magic the Thurisaz rune is likened to "the hammer, or the thorn on a branch."
I would agree with the resemblance to a thorn and indeed Thorn is the name for this Rune in the Anglo-Saxon Futhork[ASF] but it cannot by any stretch of the imagination be viewed as being a hammer.

The thorn conception is of course confirmed by the ASF Rune name and also by the Old English Rune Poem:

"[Thorn] is very sharp; for every thegn who graps it, it is harmful, and exceedingly cruel to every man who lies upon it."

We will recall from the Eddas that Thunor was often engaged in fighting the forces of chaos and disorder, visualised as being etins or giants. The Norse term is thurs and this is the name of the Rune in both the Old Norwegian Rune Poem:

"[Thurs] causes the sickness of women; few are cheerful from misfortune."

and in the Old Icelandic Rune Poem:

"[Thurs] is the torment of women and the dweller in the rocks and the husband of the giantess Vard-runa. Ruler of the legal assembly."

The Thurisaz Rune is often linked to Thunor on runic finds and I do not doubt this clear association but it is wrong to the view the Rune form as a hammer, which was generally viewed as being a double hammer. It is clearly an axe and the axe as I have discussed before is the original weapon of the original Germanic Thunder God.

Schutzstaffel, Schwarze Sonne and Schwarze Stein

National Socialism was more than a political ideology it was an entire Weltanschauung, almost a religion and indeed more than a religion.

"Do you understand now the profound significance of our National Socialist movement? Whoever sees in National Socialism nothing but a political movement doesn`t know much about it.............It is even more than a religion: it is the will to create mankind anew."[Hitler Speaks]
Like all religions it had an exoteric and an esoteric aspect. Miguel Serrano recognised that the exoteric war had been lost in 1945 but the esoteric war continues and it is this struggle that we are engaged in today.

Like National Socialism the elite organisation known as the SS had both an exoteric and an esoteric aspect.
Externally it was initially Adolf Hitler`s Protection Squad[Schutzstaffel] which later was enlarged by its subsequent leader Reichsfuehrer SS Heinrich Himmler[ the fourth out of five leaders in total] into a police force and elite military unit.
Its outward trappings became more occultic-two Sig runes for its symbol, its use of the Totenkopf[Death`s Head] and black uniforms, reminiscent of the ancient Teutonic Harii.

SS men were encouraged to relinquish their former allegiance to xtianity and were indoctrinated into Rune Lore and ancient Teutonic heathen rituals to mark the seasons of the year. Fire was also venerated in their night time rituals.

The public and exoteric interpretation of SS[Schutzstaffel] had an inner esoteric interpretation-Schwarze Sonne. This was only known to the higher initiates of the organisation who actively sought to transform it under Himmler`s leadership into a mystical order of warrior monks with their centre at Schloss Wewelsburg.

After the external collapse of the German Reich in 1945 the Swastika symbol was replaced by the Schwarze Sonne and this was to be seen on German fighter aircraft in the closing days of WWII. The golden visible sun[the external Aryan Reich] gave way to the black invisible sun of the esoteric internal Aryan Reich. The war which had been thought on the earth in gross matter was now being fought on other planes of reality in spirit-and still is!

Like the SS symbol the Schwarze Sonne consists of Sig runes but 12 in number, all radiating from a centre. These runes signify the 12 knights of the Round Table, a mystical secret order. They also stand for the 12 signs of the zodiac and as Nigel Pennick has ably shown in his book Runic Astrology[1995] each half month is governed by a rune of the Elder Common Germanic Futhark. Also in many Indo-European mythologies the primary Gods were grouped into 12, such as the Aesir.

"The alchemical metaphor of sol niger[Black Sun] was said to represent occultation, blackening, a sinking into the mystery of self-discovery."[Black Sun, Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke, 2002].

Karl Maria Wiligut in his writings also referred to the Black Sun which he called Santur:

"Sunur saga santur tvo
Sintyr peri fuir sprueh
Wiligoti haga tharn
Halga fuir santur tvo" [Santur Charm]
The Black Sun became more prominent when Wilhelm Landig published his trilogy of books between 1971-1991.

"The Black Sun shines above the Midnight Mountain. The human eye cannot see it-and yet it is there: its light shines within. The bold and the righteous are solitary but they have divinity.[Rebellen fuer Thule, 1991]

In addition to the Schwarze Sonne interpretation of the double Sig runes I recently identified a third interpretation: Die Herren vom Schwarzen Stein[The Lords of the Black Stone], a less well known organisation which features mainly in German literature.
DHvSS was founded by Knight Commander Hubertus Koch in 1221, a Marcionite Order who were privy to ancient Aryan Babylonian and Sumerian[Sumer-Aryan] teachings regarding the Babylonian/German mountain Goddess Isais[Isa-Is] who resides in the Untersberg mountain in Germany and Austria, close to where Hitler had his famous Berghof retreat at Berchtesgaden.

Interestingly the Untersberg as allegedly the mountain into which the German Kaiser Friedrich Barbarossa[Red Beard] retreated and who will one day like King Arthor[Ar-Thur/Aryan Thor] return to save his people. The etymology of Berchtesgaden is also interesting. This name could derive from the German Goddess Berchta/Perchta.

According to the teaching of DHvSS:

"The Black Sun is the divine source of energy accessible to initiates through a hierarchy of spiritual intermediaries."[Black Sun]
The Sig rune symbolises amongst other things, lightning, the power of Thunor, the mark of the Uebermensch and also of the sun, the Sonnenmensch.

"life-force, vitality, the light of truth, human consciousness, rationality...........the chariot of the gods was often depicted among the Germanic peoples as carrying a sun-disc or mandala, a universal symbol for the sun, the higher self, wholeness."[Peterson, 1988]
There appears to be a significant connection between the mythology and secret doctrines of the Aryan elite of Babylon and Sumer and the teachings of Armanism which I intend to analyse in closer detail in future articles along with the significance of the Schwarze Stein.

Das Gott of the Ancient Teutons

Recently I had been lectured to by a supposed German on a website[which I will not name as this will give them the oxygen of publicity] which likes to publish some of my articles to then take the proverbial piss out of them. This particular lecture involved the use and choice of the definite article for the German word for god-Gott. I have on several occasions on this blog mentioned the Armanen practise of referring to the God of the Germans[who Hitler often referred to] as Das Gott[neuter gender] as opposed to Der Gott [masculine gender]. This was done to differentiate the Aryan God of the Germans from the semitic god of the Jews, Muslims and Christians. Our Gods and Godesses should be perceived as rays or emanations of the all-pervading force, intellect, the first cause who the ancient Aryans considered to be beyond gender. The Indo-Aryans called this deity Brahma. The ancient Germans acknowledged Tiw/Tyr/Teiws/Zio as their supreme being, later to be eclipsed by Thunor and then Woden as the ancient Teutons by necessity needed to become more war-like in their struggle for existence.

Tiw may be traced back to the reconstructed primary deity of the undivided Aryans, *Dyeus. He is also the Dyaus Pitar of the Indo-Aryans, the Jupiter of the Latins and the Zeus of the Greeks. Amongst the Teutons and the Indo-Aryans He became a very abstract figure. In the Eddas He is relegated to being a son of Woden just as Thunor had been. He performs a useful function in the mythology but tends to be in the background, a sign of His eclipse by the more prominent Woden and Thunor.

Significantly Tyr is also used as a general term for `god` in the Eddas, an indication that at one time to talk about Tyr/Tiw was to talk about `God`. Even Woden who had many by-names was called Hangatyr-`god of the hanged`. It is interesting that Tiw was called Zio in Old High German and was worshiped by the Suebi in southern Germany. His consort was Zisa. Nigel Pennick in his The Complete Illustrated Guide to the Runes[which I highly recommend] states that:

"Teiwaz represents the Pole Star, sacred to the goddess Zisa."

He also states:

"His consort, the goddess Cisa or Zisa, had a shrine at Augsburg, where they celebrated her festival annually on September 28."

Because of the close similarity of their names I conjecture that originally Zio and Zisa were in fact the same deity as some speculate that Njord and Nerthus were. This does not meen that Tiw was a hermaphrodite but that the original supreme God of the Germans was beyond and above gender, transcendental, untouched by human definition. It is possibly this is the God who should be referred to as the Das Gott of the Germans.

It is interesting that a debate has been initiated recently over the choice of definite article for  referring to Gott, no doubt sparked by political correctness and feminism. However this debate has acknowledged that in National Socialist Germany there were also attempts to refer to God as Das Gott but no doubt from a different motivation.

Fritsch, Berlin 1940].

Gibor, the Fyrfos and the Phoenicians

Professor L.A. Waddell in his The Phoenician Origin of Britons, Scots and Anglo-Saxons Discovered by Phoenician and Sumerian Inscriptions in Britain by Pre-Roman Coins[1924] states:

"The Hitto-Phoenician origin of this design is evident from the Phoenician coin from Gaza here figured in which darts are also used to show the direction of revolution as in the Scottish Swastika:...."

He is referring to a coin which is also figured on page 878 of Thomas Wilson`s Swastika The Earliest Known Symbol and its Migrations.[1894]. The Swastika symbol featured on the coin is clearly the same symbol as the Gibor Rune of Guido von List`s Armanen Futhork.

Wilson states:

"The Swastika sign is not perfect, only two arms of the cross being turned, and not all four".

I do not for one minute accept that the Phoenicians who Professor Waddell considers to be Aryan and not Semitic would have carelessly produced a sloppy and imperfect Swastika on their coins. This to me is not conceiveable. I believe that this was a deliberate act to conceal the full nature of the Swastika for some reason best known only to them.

The Gibor Rune which is the 18th and last of the Armanen Futhork is clearly a half way stage between the equilateral Aryan Solar Cross and the true Swastika. It visually combines both elements. Of course we have always known that these two solar symbols were linked and scholars speculate which came first.
If one considers the Solar Cross which is an equilateral cross in a circle one can see how by a simple adaptation the rounded Thulean Swastika can be made to appear. The Swastika has many variants and meanings. In Das Geheimnis der Runen von List refers to Gibor as signifying God, the All Begetter. This is not Der Gott of the xtians but Das Gott of the ancient Germans. He is the Begetter of the All, Das All which contains Das Ich-The I, the awakened self which is signified by the Is/Iss/Isa Rune, the Rune which is first necessary to master when practicing Runic Yoga for all the other Runic forms stems from this. Regular invocation and meditation in the Is stance focuses concentration and intensifies Self-awareness; it awakens Das Ich-The I which of course is the main task of the Arman, the Sonnenmensch.

From the Is stance the Arman can then simply adopt the cross stance referred to in Siegfried Adolf Kummer`s Heilige Runenmacht. Kummer`s curriculum of Runic Yoga involves 13 Runic forms and full instructions on this curriculum may be found in Edred Thorsson`s Rune Might, probably THE most important book he has published to date. I followed this curriculum many years ago and it assisted in deepening my skills in Rune Magic.

For a full discussion of Gibor readers are directed to my article on the Rune from 29/3/07 on this blog.
Also the astute observer will notice the similarity to the Wolfsangel Rune discussed here on 26/5/13.
The presence of Gibor amongst the Phoenicians in Gaza demonstrates how far Aryan man travelled over the earth in his faustian quest for knowledge and is further evidence to support the theory of the Aryan Phoenician.

The Wolfsangel and its Esoteric Significance

In the past I have discussed how the Wolfshook  or Wolfsangel Rune has been used both in the Thirty Years War[1618-1648] and in the German anti-western resistance Werhwolf movement[incorrectly spelled `Werwolf` by some] in the later stages and aftermath of WWII.

Hermann Loens refers to this symbol in his novel Wehrwolf[1910], published as Warwolf in English speaking countries. Wehrwolf[warwolf] is a play on the word Werwolf[Werewolf]-man wolf. It is interesting that both terms can be used interchangeably in a symbolic sense when referring to the Wehrwolf resistance and the characters in Loens`s book. The Wolfsangel was used as a badge of defiance by the German peasantry against the alien forces of occupation in 17th century northern Germany. I am also reminded how Sigmund and  his nephew-son Sinfjotli were able to transform themselves into wolves by donning wolf skins in order to fight their enemies. They were the original wolfsheads.

The Wolfsangel was also used as a boundary marker in German forests and later would appear on German forestry uniforms in the 18th century. It is still used as a boundary marker today in my late mother`s homeland of  Nieder Sachsen[Lower Saxony]. This symbol appears on many heraldic signs.

Wolfsangel is defined as a `rune` in the loosest sense of the term as it does not appear in any of the Futhorcs or Futharcs but it does resemble some of the runes, such as Eihwaz or Eoh, the 13th rune of the Elder[Common Germanic] Futharc and the Anglo-Saxon/Anglo-Frisian/Northumbrian Futhorc.
It also bears a resemblance to Gibor, the 18th  rune of the Armanen Futhorc. As far as I am aware this association does not appear to have been commented on by runic scholars in the English speaking world. Siegfried Adolf Kummer in his Heiligen Runenmacht[1930] does alter the form of Gibor to make it more closely resemble the Wolfsangel. This is seen most clearly in the diagramme of The Magical Rune-Circle found on page 11 of Rune=Magic, translated by Edred Thorsson. Nigel Pennick, a notable English rune scholar only comments on the similarity between Gibor and the swastika[see The Complete Illustrated Guide to the Runes].

The original purpose of the Wolfshook of course was to destroy wolves and yet paradoxically as wolfsheads we use this as our symbol of defiance against the forces of decay in the Kali Yuga. I have pondered this question for a long time and I believe that I have found the answer. I believe that we associate with this symbol for reasons which are buried in our Racial Collective Unconscious. If we consider that at Ragnarok the all devouring Fenris wolf swallows the sun, personified as the Goddess Sol and also Woden. Prior to these events he also maimed Tiw by biting off His right hand. He is thus a threat to the solar order of the Gods but he will be destroyed by Woden`s avenging son, Wid-Ar. Could it be that the weapon which Wid-Ar will use is the Wolfsangel? We can see now why this rune has a deep resonance with Wodenists and in my case particularly so due to my Lower Saxon ancestry.

The Symbolic Meanings of the Eye of Wotan

The sunwheel is represented by an equilateral solar cross inside a circle. Initiates know this as Wotans Eye. The uninitiated outside world call this the `Celtic Cross` and often mistake this for a xtian symbol: we know different. Rudolf Koch`s The Book of Signs refers to this symbol variously as `The Sun-Cross`, the `Sun wheel` and the `Cross of Wotan`. He does not elaborate further on this. Of course Wotan`s Eye is all of these things, a solar cross, a solar wheel and His eye or cross. We read in Gylfaginning in the Prose or Younger Edda:
"I know it all, Odin, where you deposited your eye, in that renowned well of Mimir. Mimir drinks mead every morning from Val-father`s pledege. Know you yet, or what?"
This is why images of our All-Father are often[but not always] depicted as Him having just one eye. The Eye of Wotan symbol represents this one-eyed God. The apparent immersion of the sun each evening into the waters of the west represents His eye, His divine consciousness being dipped into the well. The symbol is of course solar in nature as befitting one of the sky Gods, which the Aesir primarily are. He shares this realm with Thunor and Tiw, both of whom in their turn were earlier versions of the sky father, now relegated in the late Eddas to being His sons. Of course we know that this is not literally the case. In the early Germanic world Tiw and then Thunor were acknowledged as the most important of the Gods. The later Woden incorporates some of the elements of these two earlier Gods but yet has something new and different to offer us for He is a God of mysteries, of secrets, of the Runa. It is to Thunor that we go for protection but it is to Woden that we seek wisdom and awakening. The sacrifice of His eye in the well of the wise Mimir was one of three occasions when Woden gained supernatural wisdom and in-sight. The other two occasions were of course His sacrifice on Yggdrasill and the gaining of Kvasir`s blood. Kvasir was created from the spittle of both the Aesir and Vanir at the conclusion of the war of the Gods and thus Kvasir could be viewed as both an As and a Van which would make Him unique. All three events involved sacrifice of some kind. Only through sacrifice which is a form of exchange can wisdom be gained. It is the price that must be paid. Not only does the Sun Cross remind us of His eye but also of His sacrifice on the World Ash-Yggdrasil or Irminsul. As Havamal in the Elder or Poetic Edda tell us:
"I know that I hung on a windy tree nine long nights, wounded with a spear, dedicated to Odin, myself to myself, on that tree of which no man knows from where its roots run."
The cross in the circle represents this cosmic event of which xtianity has sought to copy and distort.
"No bread did they give me nor a drink from a horn, downwards I peered; I took up the runes, screaming I took them, then I fell back from there."
The astute observer will note that Woden did not invent the runes as some third rate books on the runes suggest but He discovered them: they were already there, cosmic secrets waiting for the questing soul to find and decipher. Rudolf Simek in his Dictionary of Northern Mythology refutes the suggestion that Woden`s sacrifice of "myself to myself" is a plagiarism of the crucifixion of christ:
"The manifold symbols which fall together in Yggdrasill as the world-tree, world-axis, support of the skies, Odin`s tree of sacrifice have led to attempts being made to show that this myth has Christian characteristics[cf the legend of the Rood]; it is more likely, however, that Indo-European concepts, if not indeed archetypal concepts, have mingled together in the concept of the world-tree in Yggdrasill."
He goes on to state that the Celts also worshiped such a tree. There are of course links between the sunwheel and swastika which also has a curved or a Thulean form. The swastika or fylfot is the symbol of the Thunder God Thunor and we should not be surprised that these two solar sky Gods should be linked in this way. I intend to elaborate further on this connection in an article which I will publish soon on this blog.

Thor`s Hammer and the Indo-European Tarot

It was brought to my attention the other day by a folk comrade that the Eyrarland Thor statue from Iceland features Thor holding a hammer which not only resembles the Foss hammer[see Further Reflections on the Icelandic Wolf`s Hammer and The Icelandic Wolf Hammer articles on my Die Armananschaft der Ario-Germanen blog] but also the club suit of a deck of playing cards. This got me thinking about the esoteric significance of playing cards apart from the Tarot variety. Back in the 1950s after my mother had settled in this country from her native Nieder Sachsen in Germany from time to time she would use normal playing cards for the purposes of divination, something which my father disapproved of. We tend to think of these cards as purely a game but they can of course be used for divination and I dare say as meditation aids although the Tarot is more suited for this purpose. There is a difference of opinion as to whether the Tarot is derived from the standard playing cards that we are familiar with today or whether this is the other way around. I believe that it is significant that playing cards and the Tarot can be used for both the purposes of divination and gambling. Of course the Tarot is more associated with divination and has been developed that way. Gambling and divination were inextricably liked in the culture of the ancient Teutons. Games of dice were very popular and these too had divinatory functions. This is best expressed in the Perthro/Peord rune which Edred Thorsson ascribes the meaning of this rune as `lot-cup` which it does indeed resemble. The Old English Rune Poem states of Perd:
"Perd is always play and laughter among bold men, where the warriors sit in the beer hall, happily together."
Thorsson in Runecaster`s Handbook states:
"First, you must understand that there was very little difference between the techniques and tools of runecasting and those of simple gambling. Second, you must realize that gambling was an absolute passion among the Germanic[and even Indo-European] peoples."
Tacitus in his Germania also draws attention to the Germanic warrior`s love of gambling. Thorsson also likens the `beer hall` as
"a place where sacrificial drink is consumed."
To the Germanic and Indo-Germanic Maennerbund the consumption of beer and the use of `gambling` tools were aids in the process of both divination and spiritual awakening. The use of alcohol or other intoxicants should not in my opinion be available for the general masses who do not know how to handle them but should be reserved for initiates as part of their spiritual and magical workings just as in times past the Soma/Haoma was reserved for the Indo-Aryan and Iranian priestly caste. If society was to heed this message it would be saved a great deal of grief in alcohol or drug addictions, crime and anti-social behaviour: these foods are simply not meant for them and they are consequently misused. The mead of Woden is reserved for His Einheriar. Guido von List believed that the Armanenschaft whilst undergoing persecution from xtian clerics safeguarded their ancient lore by entrusting it to rabbis in the 8th century CE Rheinland. This lore was the origin of the hebrew Kabbalah which is nothing other than a plagiarism of Aryan mystical teaching. It is significant that the anagram of Tarot is Torat, not too dissimilar to Tora[h]. My readers I am sure will be aware that the entire bible, both Old and New Testaments are also a plagiarism and degeneration of Aryan teaching and mythology. They can produce nothing original, nothing new so their rabbis steal the teachings of other peoples, most notably from the Aryan peoples. The suits of a modern deck of playing cards consist of the following: Clubs-symbol of Thor`s Hammer. Spades-symbol of Gungnir, spear of Woden. Hearts-symbol of Freyja. Diamonds-symbol of Ing. The Italian version of Clubs is symbolised literally by a truncheon-like club which like the hammer and the axe was a symbol of the German Thunder God, Donar-from Donner=thunder. Amongst the southern German tribes the wearing of a Donarkeule as a symbol of the God was quite common and this symbol is also liked to the Greek demi-god Heracles, whom Tacitus stated in his Germania the Germans worshipped. There may also be an association of Tarot with Tara, an Aryan Goddess worshiped by the Roma who originated in India. This name also features as a mother Goddess in Irish mythology and gave Her name to the sacred centre of Ireland at Tara where the Irish High Kings were crowned. In future articles I intend to explore the Aryan archetypes found within the Major Arcana.

Woden and the Fylfot

We usually associate the fylfot[swastika] with the God Thunor and this is correct to do so but there are instances where our ancestors have also associated this most holy symbol with Woden. As you can see from the above images, in the first one Woden is depicted with His two ravens and a border of fylfots above His head. This is a 12th century church carving from Great Cranfield church in Essex. This picture also features in Nigel Pennick and Prudence Jones` A History of Pagan Europe. The second image shows a typical carving of Woden wearing His horned raven helmet. What is different about this picture is that the fylfot is located on the front of His helmet just above His eyes where one would expect the pineal gland or `Third Eye` to be positioned. The third image is a rather typical bracteate[a coin used as an amulet pendant during the Germanic migration age] showing Wotan, His horse, a runic inscription ALU and the fylfot. Scholars speculate that these were used as devices to aid meditation and divination amongst the Germanic peoples. The fylfot is closely related to the Sonnenrad[Sunwheel], the equilateral cross in the circle and some speculate that the fylfot originated from the Sonnenrad. The Sonnenrad is more associated with Woden than Thunor and is often referred to as Odin`s Eye or Wotan`s Eye[See Rudolf Koch`s The Book of Signs, p18]. Koch states underneath the fylfot image that:
The swastika, or fylfot cross. Derived from the sun wheel.
One can certainly see the rounded Thulean swastika as being an intermediate symbol between the Sonnenrad and the fylfot. It is possible that the more straight legged fylfot originated from the Sonnenrad via the rounded Thulean one. The origins of the swastika are speculated upon in Swastika the Earliest Known Symbol and its Migrations[1894] by Thomas Wilson. I will not discuss this more here but reserve this in depth issue for a future article. More interesting information about the fylfot in the British Isles can be found in The Fylfot File by Stephen Taylor[I highly recommend this work despite it being written by a churchman!] The image of the dancing raven-helmeted Woden has rightly been subjected to much analysis by Wodenists but I am particularly interested in the positioning of the fylfot in the second image. In my own meditative work I use a rounded fylfot for protection but it is also important to visualise the symbol as well, often in a yellow or red-gold glow, vibrant and fiery. In addition to offering protection the fylfot also is able to open the sixth Ajna chakra or wheel. Holding as well as visualising the fylfot can aid meditation and the gaining of spiritual insight-sight WITHIN! Clearly Woden intends us to use the fylfot to help open this 6th wheel in order to unlock our spiritual and psychic capacities. As with all things Woden is our guide. We follow in His steps in order to gain full awakening. The concept of the chakras or wheels as we would refer to them in the Germanic tradition along with the teaching of the Irminsul and Kundalini are part of a more ancient collective Aryan body of lore which the Germanic and Hindu traditions belong to. This issue is something I intend to explore in a future article.
